for a fish only with no corals it doesn't matter much. It matters for corals, but as long a there is enough light for it to be pleasing to the eye you are fine.

As everyone else stated your tank is too new for an anenome. But him hiding away from the light when new is perfectly normal. My clowns [tank raised] didnt go near my anenome for probably 5 months after I had them, but since have, and they are in them all night and a good portion of the day.

I have the 12k reeflux, and like them. They are a bit blue, but I like the look. I do no actintic supplementation, which is nice.

Use eggcrate or screen. fishes can go through egcrate but lowers your chances. Screen requires more work but will prevent jumpers

get any equipment possible used, from your local reef club members, craigslist. DIY where possible [ie. a regular small tank for a sump modified, instead of these big expensive sumps]. Rock off craigslist/fellow reeefers, and just enough, rest can be base. research/research so you dont buy...

Not diatoms, it is brown, and flakes off like wafers if you pull it off, otherwise on the rocks its kind of slick and slimy. If you google for it you can see what I mean, it's not a fun algae :-) Originally Posted by Jstdv8 is it a diatom, like brown hair aglae? Or something else?

Any clues on this algae? I, like all the stuff I read on google, pluck it off as much as possible, but its took over many rocks and the rocks are completly brown without the flakes. It's not easy [at all] to take some of the big rocks out] and scrub them and bleach them like recommended. But...

Just a fair warning, your clowns are never guaranteed to host an anemome you purchase, espcially if they are tank bred, but even wild caught, are not guaranteed. I bought a RBTA about 6 months ago, and my clowns have yet to give it any notice.

Run the HOB on the sump for a little while after you hook up the sump, that way just to be safe you have the bacteria still going there, it's really not needed, btu doesn't hurt while your changign filtration methods.

I bought my entire tank used and it came with a SuperSkimmer 125. I will be replacing it soon. I hate it, not only is it underpowered , but it is *very* finicky, it is hard to adjust and stay adjusted. I definatly reccomend against it. I am going to probably get a Octo Extreme 160.

Yea, and Tropic Marin might be a great salt, but quite pricey at close to $100 bucks for a bucket. I say go with IO if you want to supplement some calcium, or Reef Crystals for a good reef salt. I use IO currently but when my next bucket runs out I'm goign to try Reef Crystals, as I'd like a...

Look on craigslist in your area, or your local reef club, sometimes there are members selling nice live rock cheap. [in the $2 to $3 a lb. range]. I also agree, grab a 30 gallon or whatever tank, and build your own sump, its much better.

So how does one make their own food, what do they get? Just some tilapia, shrimp, scallops from the seafood section at the grocery store and grind it up and freeze in smal sections? Or what? Do you add anything to it? Thanks, Jeff
