Anyone do anything cool with their overflow?

Well, my mystery wrasse has a new infatuation with my overflow (standard built in overflow top to bottom). He has jumped in there twice now and really seems to like it for some reason. I have now put egg crate all around that area to detour him but he has definetely tried to jump back in there...

    Used aquarium concerns

Petsmart...ahh....that is where I got my leaky Oceanic bowfront...fond memories... Anyway, I would definetely find a long term tank that has built in overflows. It will save you money in the long run...believe me...

    Slow Build 55 Gallon

Tank looks good. Looks much bigger than a 55 because it is long style. So how much of the tank does that LED setup cover? I just got 3 of the PAR 38 LED lamps, but really want to get rid of my PC's before summer. My chiller always has to work over time...I figure if I had that along with the...

    Used aquarium concerns

+1 on checking the silicon and everything. That tank does look pretty sturdy, but saltwater tanks are going to be much more demanding on a tank than freshwater because of all the critters in the sand that can dig around and all the rock that sits on top of the glass. Plus, saltwater tanks have...

    Officially joined the hobby today!!!

I am not sure if that plywood in the sump area is stained or not, but you might want to put a couple coats of kilz in that area. I covered all my wood underneath in kilz because I did not want any worping or water to get into the wood at all.

New Stuff!!!! And need a bit of advice...

Meowzer...you were right about the MP40 on random mode. Much better. I think the problem with the long pulse is that it goes from no noise for 30 seconds to full boar immediately and there is no transition. With the random it slowly gets to that level so it is not as drastic. I didnt really...

New Stuff!!!! And need a bit of advice...

Here are a few more aquarium pics as well as my new refugium light. It is a Philips LED outdoor flood light from the depot. It is only 4600K which is a little lower than what I had, but the algae is responding to it really well and it will last years longer than a typical flood lamp. These...

Yes. Good idea. I had a Koralia on that side as well as a Koralia on the other side before the MP40. Maybe I can position one so it just points straight down at that spot at least for a while. Thank you for the compliment also! Quote: Originally Posted by Flower Awesome power head! Check...

Yeah, that green stuff is Green Star Polyps(I think that is what it is called)...it is a coral that spreads like crazy. Would not recommend it personally. It took over that whole rock in the front and is creeping up the back wall. Need to scrape it off. Not sure if I like the way it looks...

New Stuff!!!! And need a bit of advice...

I have a refugium underneath with a protein skimmer. Tons of algae growing in it. I upgraded that light to LED also at 4600K. The new Phillips ones that they are selling at the Depot. Those work great if anyone is looking for an awesome refugium light. I only use RO/DI water and have been...

    Orange sponge dying?

I have never had good luck with sponges either. I have tried orange, blue and black sponges and they have all shriveled up into nothing eventually.

    Moving Time!

I hired an expert to move mine when I moved because I was nervous I was going to break something or do something wrong. He brought over about seven 5-gallon buckets and loaded rock, aquarium water, fish. We loaded up everything into his truck and made the drive. At the new place, he had a...

New Stuff!!!! And need a bit of advice...

Well, it has been a while since I splurged on my tank so I decided to go big and get a bunch of stuff this time. I have only ever had PC's for my tank so the first thing I got was 3 LED PAR38 lamps so now I have a few SPS corals that seem to be doing really well so far. I also got a clam. He...
