We use the Fluval carbon packs in our 14gal biocube, and they are just fine. Carbon just filters/absorbs, it does not actually release anything into the water, so you should be fine. Change your carbon packs every month to keep up the filtration!
We found this on our aquarium glass this evening. I know I have seen postings of similar pictures on earlier threads, and I think they are some type of egg.
Any ideas?
Found this guy on our live rock a few weeks ago, but I suspect it has been there all along and is just now visible.
What is it? It does not move around the rock, and its halves will pinch closed periodically. Is it a sponge of some type?
Yes, the tank has live rock. Our angelfish and blue tang are doing just fine and finding algae to eat, it's just the rabbit fish. We have been feeding it green algae strips that we know it likes [we've been feeding the same type to it for over a year], but it still won't eat.
Will increase the...
We have noticed our fish getting progressively skinnier over the past few weeks. It will eat a little bit, but not alot. None of our other fish display these symptoms. Recent water panel raises no concerns, at good levels.
Our fish are fed a variety of shrimps and squid 2 times daily, including...
Most recent water change: last week
Not in direct sunlight
Lights on for 12 hours/day

Over the past few months, we have been developing this stubborn scum in our tank. It is that clear greenish-coloured film that covers the glass, and it just will not go away!
We have to scrape our tank every few hours to keep the glass clean. Despite scrubbing our liverock off of green scum AND...
looks like algae. I had this in my tank, but we got it off using an old-school razor blade (remember when there was just one blade?) and some elbow grease. It will take 2-3 scrapings, and with good filtration it should clear up soon enough.
Buy a bristleworm trap, they're about $15. I bought a Coralife Trap'em and it took about 1 week for it to catch my bristleworms.
The trap has a one-way in, no-way out function, so once the worm is by the food, there is no escape...it works well.
