as far as I know, if your nitrites are up, then the ammonia has cleared the cycle. The trates will continue to rise for the life of the tank. That is one of the reasons for water changes. You need to wait until the trites are cleared.

just out of curiosity, what if someone lived along the great barrier reef? That water is obviously doing fairly well. I could understand the coast of Floria being a problem, but what about non industrialized coasts?

By Ghost feed, he means giving the tank food even though there is nothing to feed. Nothing you can see anyway as the food will break down and "feed" bacteria that will keep the cycle going.

Bump. Well, I have bought new light bulbs. Still don't know what to do about the sand. Tomorrow, I will add it and throw the shrimp in to start the cycle.

Hello all. My current cube has been up for about a year now and the coral is getting to big for its home. I am another year away from building a large tank (an upgrade from my old 150 to a 300) and am in the beginning stages of setting up an older one. This cube was taken down about two years...

Hello all, have been out of the hobby for over two tears and decided to get back in... Started taking inventory of all my stuff. I have a nice Salifert kit purchased 2 or 3 years ago. Think its still good? While I'm at it, what about kalc mix and other powders?

i would use RO. my ro unit normaly registers between 2-6 ppm of TDS. this is much better that the tap at 250-300 ppm tds
