    Silicone OK to use? Squidd?

Virtually all silicone has the "not for aquarium use" warning, as squidd said above, more for liability than safety concerns. If the silicone is 100% silicone and not made for kitchen an bath use, it's probably okay. I personally prefer the ACE hardware clear 100% brand, it has FDA approval for...

    Terminator Skimmer

I haven't gotten mine yet Debbie, it's supposed to ship soon though. The new model is being released this week I think and then I'll get it. Let you know when I know more. Good luck!

    Terminator Skimmer

Debbie, tell me more about this elusive elbow. I've looked at the instructions that were available on the site I ordered mine from and all the plumbing "appeared" to be pretty standard PVC fittings. Is this elbow on the terminator itself or on the sumpless kit? Paul P.S. Now you know how I felt...

    Terminator Skimmer

Oh good now you tell me I'm sure everything will work out fine. I got the instructions for the sumpless add on kit and I think I understood them but I'll wait and see what actually arrives at the doorstep before I make a final call. Did you get the new model? I *think* it's the Terminator II...

    Tap Water Filter

As usual Golfish is quite correct, but he didn't provide the reasoning behind the answer. My understanding is that the tapwater filter works fine (okay adeqately) however the price is deceiving. Each media "charge" only produces 50 gallons +/- of purified water and the media is about 20 bucks...

Anybody make their own float switch?

hmmmm, well I can see that if you 1) are hooking it straight into a freshwater line, not suggested since you're going to be pumping all sorts of ugliness in with untreated water, or 2) if you're out of town for weeks at a time, not likely unless *somebody* is probably going to be watching after...

Anybody make their own float switch?

All things considered, buying one for $16.25 seems the most logical route to me. Made for R/O returns and saltwater safe, you can find them at Aquatic Eco-systems (search google for the link). I have three installed in my system and they are great. One other note, since my R/O system only...

    Anyone near a TV ?

It's a tragic day for NASA and the space program. My heart goes out to the families and friends of our brave astronauts. It looks like it wasn't terrorist action, thank God. Our prayer's are with all, Paul

What would you do for a closed loop if you were me?

Thanks Richard but there is no metal, I *think* what you're talking about are the copper colored celcon valves on the original manifold. Celcon is saltwater safe type of heavy-duty plastic. I did change the original manifold design to 1" ball valves from those 3/4" gate valves though. Later, Paul

What would you do for a closed loop if you were me?

Thanks for the plug Jarvis :) Here are some pics of the closed loop system on my tank. I don't have any sea swirls attached but it seems to me that they would be fairly easy to incorporate. http://www.villagebistro.info/phpgal...p?exhibition=9 These might give you some ideas! Good luck, Paul

    lights of america

Oh I see, thanks for the clarification. I took mine completely out of the fixture and built a custom reflector that houses all 9 of the ones I have installed. The ballast's are basically completely open so hopefully this won't be a problem :) Later, Paul

    Sump/Refuge DIY Pics!

There are saltwater safe check valves but they don't seal as tightly as the ones with a stainless steel spring. The one's sold at HD (here anyway) have the stainless spring which I'm just not comfortable with. I redesigned a lot of my planned circulation system to avoid having to use check...

    Mid-East Crisis

A terrorist is just that, a terrorist. His or her religion has absolutely nothing to do with that simple fact. By using any kind of "prefix" to the word terrorist we are attempting to "validate" the terrorist's rational for his or her deeds. There simply is no validation for terrorism, it's a...

whats your take on this ?

Actually I would guess the UV is on the input side of the system to insure pure water to the unit. Just a guess, but sounds logical Later, Paul

Cleaning Copper out of a tank... HELP

RE: putting live rock and sand in a QT ??? I know that you said you'ld move the fish to another tank for treatment if needed but what happens if whatever the fish may have, ie parasites etc, gets into the QT tank and hence in the LR and LS? I think one reason QT tanks are pretty much bare glass...
