    feather duster

they are filter feeders (need phytoplankton), are not light sensitive - they should be out all the time, they are not particularly sensitive to water quality, and they do grow their feathers back if they ever 'pop theier tops"

    feeding shrooms

This may be the problem. I think you should have between 3 to 5 watts per gallon for soft corals - shrooms in particular want lots of light!. As for the feeding aspect, shrooms eat phytoplankton. I just squirt it straight into the tank. you can probably add via a baster if you choose - but i...

    Which VHO Bulbs???

URI bulbs are great!!! And, you do need VHO ballasts. You should buy "electronic" ballasts while you are at it - they generate far less heat.

beginner needs help w/ h2o change

make sure if you use a bucket that it is clean and has NEVER been used for any other purpose. I made a silly mistake early on in syponing with a piece of tubing that was LAYING around my house. In the process, water accidently backed up back into the tank. I was lucky in that the hose turned...

is this purple star reef safe!?

I believe it is very similar, if not the same as a blue Linkia - just a slightly different color variation. I have seen these same ones in reef tanks and they seem to do well. The trick, like with most stars, is keeping it alive! Good luck. Mg1197

    Long Nose Hawkfish...Safe?

This is a great fish - they are reef safe as far as I know - I had one in a reef tank. I'm not sure of their behavior around small shrimp. Though they are fine with corals and will eat bristle worms!

    Hairy mushrooms

Just make sure that they are high up in the tank and that your water p[arameters are ok - that should be all they need. I have never heard of clowns bothering shrooms.
