    swapping fishtanks

Hello everybody. Have a questions for those who may have been through this before. We have a 90 gal on one wall of our living room. It is the ONLY available space in the living room for our tank. We bought a new fishtank (went from hang-on filter to sump system) and a new stand. How to get...

Convert saltwater tank to freshwater tank

Greetings! Yes, you read the above right, the topic is converting FROM a saltwater TO FRESHWATER... hubby and I are buying a new tank that is predrilled reef ready with the sump underneath, and our bro-in-law, who has freshwater fish (cichlids, I think) wants to buy our tank from us as it is...

What the bleepedy-bleep is going on?

Mary has some good suggestions. Whenever I add new fish, I also move some of the rocks around. It distracts the established fish and allows everybody time to find their own new hiding place. You're still working on your LR, so this is a harder task for you to accomplish. All in due time...

    Butterfly feeding

He's a copperbanded. And so pretty. I about fell over when he and the Naso ate right out of my hand. He's not taken to the greens too well, but I feed the vegetarians Formula 2, "Sea veggies" and occasional flakes, and then they treat themselves to the shrimp and krill as well. I usually...

    Butterfly feeding

Hello. Just wondering what other folks have successfully fed their butterflies. I just got mine a few weeks ago - actually he's "supposed" to belong to hubby, but since he and my naso tang both let me hand feed them, I have offically claimed them as "mine". Anyway, all he eats is frozen...

What to expect when you're expecting????

Saw the coolest thing just now, My hubby was alternating between watching football and watching the tank and said he thought the LR was on fire because it was smoking! So we looked closer and saw it was a snail and figured he was expelling himself. Got out the flashlight and discovered there...

    Black spots on Regal

Beth, see above for water readings - they were taken the same day I QT'd the fish - I always check the same day, so they would be as of Saturday - 2 days ago.

    Black spots on Regal

Beth, I have seen black ick before on yellow tangs, and this is not the same. These spots are much larger, don't have a camera, but picture if you will if you put a sharpie dot on a piece of bathroom tissue and it bleeds or expands a little. Black ick looks more like pepper flakes, and these...

    Black spots on Regal

Found black spots on the regal tang yesterday... appeared to come out of nowhere, as we check the tank daily (visually)... kept trying to make the yellow watchman clean off whatever it is! (Oddest thing I have EVER seen!). Pulled him out immediately and put him in QT tank. Whatsamatter with...

    Dip LR removes critters?

Thomas - lol! These are huge full size brittles, probably 6 or so inches in length! But thanks! This was prompted because we saw a "leg" come out of a hole in LR - very small in diameter, appeared to be pinkish in color, with the spikes similar to a brittle star or bristle worm, but he only...

    Dip LR removes critters?

We are seeing many new critters in our LR since we purchased it, and I saw on a post to dip it in SG1.030 to remove unwanted critters... problem is we have several brittle stars hiding in the LR (would not even come out for the LFS, so they threw them in for free... if I dip the LR to make sure...

Which cleaner guy does what... and how many?

I should probably add that my tank has been up since early February, and the only inhabitants are anemones, a clown, yellow watchman, regal tang, and scooter blennie. Thanks! Karen

Which cleaner guy does what... and how many?

There seems to be a group of supporters that say not to buy a package of cleanup crew. I saw a reply (from Leigh) to another posting that recommended only buying what you need to clean up specific problems... but is there a BASIC of what to start with for cleanup crews? I have 90 g, LR, LS...

    6-legged starfish?

Purchased a bunch of LR from LFS this past week - unknowingly came home with 3 brittles (LFS knew about at least 2 of them, they just were tired of trying to fish them out of the rock, 3rd was a complete surprise today!), 1 red anemone, some other little red thing about the size of a quarter -...

LFS has "expired" Aragalive for 50% off....

It is supposed to have beneficial bacteria in it, a certain PPM that is guaranteed to live 12 months (there is water in the bag to sustain the bacteria, I guess). So yes, they do have the potential to die off, but that's where my hubby says they do not know they are expired a month, nobody goes...
