Thanks sweet reef, I can't wait for the 1 year birthday when all of my stuff has grown & grown. For the coralline I use coralline stimulator www.florida-aqua-farms.comwww.florida-aqua-farms.com I also believe that iodine & strontium help.

I have a 125g I need to get lights for and I was leaning toward a Hamilton 3 250w MH and 4 55W PCs.
Your tank looks great. I guess I don't need as much light as I thought.

Hey scoobydoo, I got my light from a LFS, had him price matcha site and didn't pay for shipping. I would go for HQI bulbs, they stay cool and don't make my electric bill go nuts. 250w would be better so I would spring for those if you can.
lopeyc, I have seen this happen many times. All of the yellow leathers 3 of my LFSs got this week are doing the same thing. I believe that it is something that they get and I do not know how to cure it. You should frag any healthy part of it you can as the corals death is most likely inevitable. The yellows like high flow and lights.

Thanks. I took the glass off the tank to increase the light and added a SWD to break up the (previously) strong laminar flow and he seems to be making a modest comeback. I read that leathers periodically go into a sort of molt periodically (not sure if it's triggeded by stress) where they produce this waxy stuff -- which he certainly has done. Hopefully he'll come back. I also moved a finger leather from a low sluggish spot in a tall tank to near the top of another tank and he is doing much better.

reefeel, I posted abolve about the coralline, also make sure your watr is very stable that also helps. As for the sand, the same thing make sure your water is healthy and stable. I used to have a diamond goby help me out with the sand cleaning until he jumped into my overflow and got stuck in my sump. I'll get another sandsifter at sometime but if you stir the top layer just a little it keeps it fresh. Make sure not to stir too much around or you can release a ton of nutrients and possibly crash your tank.
lopeyc, good luck. The fiji leathers, which are the yellows, are much more picky than the standard toadstool leathers. You also want to make sure there is nothing right by it downstream because they do release some toxins and can injure some corals this way.

how deep is that tank? 150w des going all the way to the bottom.... i would prolly move the clam up to the middle or top layer.... jmo... beauty of a tank, i cant wait to see it as it matures

My water is pretty stable but I don't have nearly as much light as you do 4 65watt compacts. I also only stir the first 1/4 in layer of sand. Although my tank has windows that get direct sunlight in the winter that my mom refuses to keep the blinds down on.:thinking:

NW2SLTFSH, The trigger is the newest addition and has done nothing wrong so far but we will see. I wouldn't go out and get one yet. Ask me again in a couple of weeks and I'll let you know. From what I've researched the niger and blue jaw trigger have been successfully kept in reef tanks because they are a lot more docile than the other triggers. They do eat snails but I add about 10 a month anyways because of my dragon wrasse.

RobChuck, I actually got rid of the shark about a week ago, it was like getting rid of a child. It wasn't causing any problems but the lights caused him to hide all of the time and was kind of pointless to have him. I will have an aggressive only tank also in a few months whenever I move so I will definitely have another with all of the cool fish I can't have with my corals.
