i would do 2 knanos one each end
try pointing one up the other towards the middle front glass
for fish i would do:
- goby/shrimp combo
- 1 ora black clownfish
I have that combo already and wish I had more flow.. I may end up swapping for 1's I dunno.

lol i mean besides taht LOL and i gotta find someway to raise/elevate the tank about 18 inches or so, so i can use rotary's design. and the stand is a handmade hardwood desk my gf's dad made, its perfect for the tank, and super sturdy and overly large as well LOL so no issues with the dogs moving it with their tails or even making it wobble LOL

it can be modded into a fuge suitable only for a very small nano or pico.

A aquaclear 110 would be big enough for your tank
Also as far as water movement, in your tank I would go with 2 koralia 1's.

That looks good. Don't forget about a heater, refractometer, test kits, salt mix, and thermometer. Also you will need a cheapy powerhead and a extra small heater to mix the water. Also one or two 5 gallon buckets (got mine from lowe's) are vital as well. HTH

should i also do the Reef Octopus BH 100SS Hang on Back Protein Skimmer? or is a skimmer needed?
since your setting up a sump there is no reason to do a hang on skimmer. You dont REALLY need a skimmer but if your going thru the trouble of a sump seems like you'd want one (at least make a skimmer compartment incase you change your mind, just make sure its big enough. this will make your fuge section small with a 10g sump (what I have for a sump)but its worth it. consider using a return pump with the smallest demensions possible thats reliable and big enough to use and make the return pump area of the sump just big enough to fit it to maximize fuge space (MD7 is relatively large and $$$). Not that big a deal because no matter what you do the fuge will be small using a 10g. Sump skimmers AquaEuro PS55 or Octopus NW110 (simular skimmers, same design, different pumps, slightly different demensions. aquaeuro's a little cheaper if your strapped) are both in the price range of the BH100SS.
dont waste your money and time on an AquaClear or any hang on mechanical filter if your going to do a sump. your overflow has a sponge that will trap debri, you can use a filter sock to catch debri, you can put media in media bags or mechanical foam between the sump dividers but in general debri that makes its way into the overflow doesn't make it back into the tank. If you leave that out and buy a cheaper return pump (like a ViaAqua for half the price of a MD7, slimmer and just as reliable. trust me I have 6 of them two and 3yrs old and never had one fail or not start when used as a return pump) you almost have saved enough on that for the skimmer.
