I agree with 2quills. Cheap Wal-mart stains are just that....cheap. I think everyone has to learn that the hard way, though.

We generally don't believe in "cheap" anything, because you really do get what you pay for, or there's generally a "cost of ownership" involved with cheap stuff. That's not saying we won't shop for the best price tho...

Cranberry - I have used the stuff that Corey is talking about - just work fast with it put it down then wipe it up with a lint free cloth, remember if it is not dark enough you can always put two coats of stain on.
I am amazed that you can run a sump outside just for laughs check out my Canadian sump/tank in February - not much life in it. LOL

LOL. One thing I love about California is the weather. It's rarely too hot. It's rarely too cold. People ask if I miss the seasons... HELL no. High 70s in the summer. Low 70s in the winter. There's ski slopes a couple of hours drive North and a hot dessert a couple of hours drive South. I can have all 3 on the same day, if I want. But right where I am.... room temp all year 'round. can't beat it.
Another asset of living here, is the number of fish stores and wholesalers.
But that's where my compliments stop.

Bahahahahahahahaha!
The tank stall now.... Renee has to have a shattered wisdom tooth cut out tomorrow. I haven't eaten anything solid since last Friday. Was up for 31 hours at one point. And praying to die on the sofa for longer than I care to think of. Punishment for not going sooner, I figure.

I had almost the same thing a couple of years ago. A broken moler and the wisdome tooth was impacting the moler on the broken side. I lived with the paint for months as the wisdome tooth kept growing in. Finally got so bad I went to the dentist and they wouldn't touch it for fear it would shatter. Had to wait a week to see an orthopedic surgeon. Pain was so bad I was litterally laying on the floor crying like a baby praying that somebody would just put me out of my misseary. Wife called emergancy asking if there was anything they could do, they said take 2 tylenol and 2 motrin together. It was the only thing that took enough of the pain away that I could actually fall asleep. Nothing else would work, not even pain pills. It got me through untill I could get the tooth pulled (didn't shatter fortunately. But I don't envy you right now as that was the worst pain I'd ever felt in my life and would never put off such a thing ever again. Good luck :(

Don't you have earthquakes? While I am no longer convinced that snow can't swallow me up anymore.... but shaking the tanks would scare me to death. I was sitting here thinking about retirement down there after what you posted...then I started thinking..earthquakes

Like I said.... that's where my compliments stop. Earthquakes are very real. Every tank is built with them in mind. I have, on more than one occassion, pictured all my scorps flopping on the floor. I just pray to "insert preference", my dog won't be home alone if it happens. :-( I would have loved to have had my 210 tank a glass instead of acrylic. But it's been known, if you get a "jumping" earthquake, the tank pops and the front panel can just slide right off. Someone I work with said he's seen it at least 10 times in our area.

Dood.... I can totally see you know my pain. I spit mine out like a chicklet. I was walking down the hall at work, when something was bouncing around my mouth like I was playing with Tic Tacs. Y'all have done the Tic Tac mouth tap dance :) I waited until I got to our breakroom when I spit out the whole top of my tooth leaving behind a black hole. It was crazy and I almost fainted! But stupid me, that was in December.
NPO after 10am Bay-Bee! I can't wait!

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear that Renee!!! I hope they got it taken care of today ( It WAS supposed to be today, right?? ).
..Something about tooth pain. Nothing is quite like it in terms of sheer overwhelming, pounding misery. There may be things worse, but for as long as tooth pain can last....? I dunno. I've done the "Please G*D kill me" prayer because of a tooth issue also. I'm pretty sure that night's prayer was more emphatic even than the one I whispered the night my appendix was as swollen as a rotten grapefruit.
Let us know how you're feeling. And when you're better....get back to work on the tank!! We're all dying for some new pics!!

I made a big pot of beef stew last PM (I simmer it for HOURS) with extra potatoes so Renee can mash them up and put some of the "gravy" on them.

That was nice of you. Reading stuff like this makes me think I should to the dentist (I still have my wisdom teeth).

Guess it's been awhile. This project was stalled until right now. There were too many projects going on after buying a new house. But we're on the way again.....

She's determined to have me cut a hole(s) in the outer wall of the house...

With the exception of going thru the wall, the plumbing should be pretty straightforward: One return pump (Pan World), a chiller (not sure on size yet), a second pump (RF Dart) driving a 4-output CL (using a OM as the switcher), and there ya go.
Right now, our main focus is to get the basic space laid out in the sump box so I can tell our acrylic tankmaker what size sump we need and where to drill the hole for the BH. I wanted to go 36" long, but I'm thinking it may be a little less. Of course, this also means that we need to insulate the box, so we know how much ******** room that will take up so we can size the sump.
There will be a skimmer, but not sure which one yet. I'm a real fan of conical skimmers these days.
Lighting will be LED or T-5, not sure yet.
Of course, that isn't counting some of the other "bells and whistles"...ATO, water changer, controller, etc. (Renee is a gadget girl...steady Joe!) as well as actually staining/finishing the stand.
Lots of work to do...

So this is the main tank at the entrance to the home met thinks. Where are the rest of the tanks and all the critters located? You have a specific area as a "tank room"?
MORE PICTURES FOLKS!!!!!
Renee at the risk of sounding like your parent...........take care of your teeth and your teeth will take care of you!
