We are very lucky to have places like Pruess and Tropicorium close to home. I would say Aquarium Warehouse is not worth the drive from flint. If your close by they are worth checking out from time to time.

I dont get out that way too often but if I do ill check it out. Have you ever gone to Mobys in waterford?
No. I have heard some pretty good things about it. I don't know if it is worth the drive, seeing how I live 5min from Tropicorium. You have been there haven't you?

Frag tank is complete (Thanks Deb for the crazy fast shipping!). I am running a XM-20k SE bulb with the HQI (m80) ballast. It should have some good par. Although I know the bulb will only last about 6 months. I had this bulb laying around, brand new so I thought I would try it for now.
Couple questions.
1. The reflector came with a glass shield. Will using it cut down on par? I am running a SE bulb so I know it is not needed.
2. I have a couple bags of sand left from my build. Would there be any advantages or disadvantages in putting it on the bottom of the frag tank?

Very nice. You should have a lot of room to grow frags out that way. That looks like it will be a sweet setup.

I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't think that there would be any problem with putting the sand in the frag tank. As long as all that flow you have in there would create a sand storm... the added sand should only help with more area for bacteria to grow. JMO

I did decide to add the sand. I heard a couple got points. One it will help reflect the light instead of the black tub absorbing it. Plus I would probably need to siphon out detrius without it. With the sand, all the criiters in it will eat it. Also I will add a cleanup crew to help keep the sand clean. Plus I am still deciding if I might add a wrasse to help control any pests that might come in on any frags. Most of these kinds of wrasses like a sandbed. I put some rock infront of the sand bed to help it from getting blown all around.

I am going to grow out alot of zoas and SPS frags from my display. I am going to have to keep my eye out for a couple sweet looking clams (Maxima or Crocea). Viewing clams from the top down is the best.

Tropicorium is not as fancy as Pruess, but it is a must see. They have one of the largest coral prop system probably in the country. It is more of a greenhouse setting. Their prices can be a little high. You can spend hours in there.
Choice, Pet connection and Fish Doctors are all great for. They all have decent coral selection.

Thats how I feel about tropicorium. I have gotten there in about 1.5 hours. But man you gotta watch the undercover Dodge cop patrol on 275 a few miles before Sibley exit.

I kinda had a thought for those things.
Pipe in the water from the bottom.
Have a tube running up the center with holes covered by screen to let water pass, but not sand.
Put a cap at the top to force pressure to make the water "flow" into the sand.
You could have a return drain funnel it back into your sump once it reaches the top.
This would force the water evenly throughout the system.
Should increase its productivity.
And your frag tank, how is it coming along?
