Hi Kjr
The DT is located about 15 feet from windows so it could get a slight bit of natural light, the QT has no natural light at all. From today on I should always have mixed water on hand I just didnt want to use the crappy r/o. The total watts of the tank are 648 and I'd say turnover per hour is about 19
I just did another 5g water change tonight and I just tested as well (know it wont be super accurate but did anyways) and Am is back to 0 but nitrites are at .25ppm. I also dosed with the nite-out again. I'll do a really light feeding tonight and another w/c and test tomorrow
Sounds good.
I wouldn't worry to much about the algae in the DT, Probably part of the breaking in and "new tank syndrome". Phosphate and nitrate and a little natural sunlight would be enough to get a little break out of cyano or algae. Are you still running your skimmer?
I'm far from a knowledgeable sps guy, though I have a couple in my Nano, but I don't believe you have the lighting for SPS in there. You could certainly do some nice softies though...Colts, Umbrellas, Devil's Hand, Toadstool, Mushrooms, etc.

Ya, I'm not to worried about the algae just hate looking at it is all. I am still running my skimmer and even though there is no fish in there its doing a great job brewing up some black coffee looking liquid. It sounds like I'll stick to soft corals then I dont feel like wasting money on anything thats not going to thrive, this tanks costing to much to waste. And as of now everything seems to be doing real well.

All the tanks I ever started had algae at the beginning. It just goes along with a new tank.

Yeah maybe just haven't noticed you posting in a while for some reason, probably cause I'm just old.

QT just tested nitrites 0 ammonia 0. I also got the new bulbs in for the one fixture and I like it much more. Found it kinda funny reef geek sent some jolly ranchers with the bulbs. I scrubbed algae and did a w/c in it so the water isnt too clear I'll post pics tomorrow

I'd say the fish look good the clowns especially. The hippo has gotten a lot of color back and does quite a bit of swimming around the tank. He goes nuts when I feed

Here's pictures after the bulb change, plus I have a few questions
Should I be cleaning any of the filter media in my fluval 70 HOB filter on my QT? I have chemi-pure elite I could run in it instead of the carbon that comes with it, is this a good idea?, All I've been doing is changing out some white poly fiber that I let soak in the DT sump every week or so.
Does anyone use those gently acclimators/transportors that are for sale? The concept is pretty cool I just dont know how well they would work for acclimating using larger volumes of water for 2-3 hour drips. I like the idea of not having to net the fish though.

I believe the chemi-pure would affect the copper treatment of your QT if you ever need to do it. Otherwise I see no harm in using it.

Love it!
I use Chem Pure btw, I have tried the Chem Pure Elite too, but just the Chem Pure now. The difference is the Elite has ferric acid in it for phosphates. I don't know that the products do all they say, but I did notice the water looks a little cleaner with it. I think its a pretty good product.

Here's some pictures of the new aqua controller and tank w/out the wires hanging down the front. I was able to hide most of the wiring inside by the DT but not all.
I need to extend the power cord on the surge protector inside the garage, I put it there to leave enough slack to where I can still adjust my lights up and down if wanted.
is the temp ok at 83? I can get it much cooler but I have to take the lids off the DT
