buy a test for anything you plan on dosing (on top of the basic stuff you probably already have to test the cycle), with these small tanks most of us do large percentage weekly water changes so most of the trace stuff gets replenished with new water. In other words you don't need to dose much more than calcium.

Okay, water changes sound easy enough.
Another chemical question. My pH is consistently 7.8. Will water changes raise that up? Should I try for a pH buffer or calcium or something?

I've been having some issues with my overflow.
I posted in the DIY but since this is a diary thingy I might as well put it in here too.
It seems my tank isn't draining as fast as it should. Here are some of the problems:
1) Slight gurgle from the airline tube
2) Overflow box is flooded (no surface skimming)
3) Not draining as fast as I thought it would
With 1" PVC it should be able to handle 400 gph. My pump is the catalina 2200 (850 gph). With 4 feet of head it brings the gph down to ~400. Is all of this correct?
At first I thought it was because my drain pipe empties below the surface of the water in my sump. Tonight I chopped off a little section to bring the end of the pipe out of the water. No luck, it made it worse actually.
Then I fiddled with the airline, seeing if there was a "sweet spot" and would magically make my overflow work. No luck there either.
This week I'm going to try drilling the elbow starting with my smallest drill bit and working my way up.
And as always if someone has any advice I'd be happy to listen.

Nissan: If you find a solution let me know and I'll do the same for you. I could just leave it alone, I mean it is level and flowing. But I'm a perfectionist about my tank lol
Meowzer: Lol thanks for the visit! You definitely add some flair to the nano section!
In other news I HAVE A BABY GIRL!!!!!!
My wife went in this morning around 10:30 for regular contractions and then 2 hours later out came Lily Mae Puckett! 7lbs 4oz 19in long and just beautiful.

No love, no love. Oh well here are updates anyways.
I got a six line and pep shrimp Thursday. A little aggression from the gramma towards the six line but they settled down now.
So on Friday when I came home from work the six line was stuck behind the rock wall

Couldn't get him out with out hurting him so I took the whole wall out. It's been bugging me for a while because I didn't plan well enough so that was the final straw. On the plus side though I have a lot more rock now lol.
Since I took the wall out I've decided to go ahead and drill the tank. I'll be doing that some time this month so stay tuned.
Very nice build. I really liked the foam rock wall
Im a big fan since I built one myself. Did you consider reef safe silicone to seal it to the back? keeping it airtight prevents trapped fish, and buildup behind it as well.

It was snug all the way around except for the cutout for the overflow box. The cutout was made before the overflow box so when I finally got around to putting it in it was too small.
I liked the rock wall idea, just not my back wall. It was ill-conceived and rushed. I'll probably do another one but on something small, like a 10 gallon.
I should have built tunnels and caves into the wall and used more rock. It was a great learning experience and I don't regret doing it, or getting rid of it.

I redid the rockwork. I don't know if I like it, but it is growing on my slowly. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow.
And I'm going to be beefing up my CUC. I have two Trochus and a Fighting Conch. My turbo died the other day so I need some voracious eaters.
I'm looking at the nerites again, I had them before but they all died. I don't know why. Would it be worth getting them again or should I get more Trochus or cerith or what?
So, what should my clean up crew be is my question.

And my little girl is doing great sleeping most of the time thankfully. My 2 year old is still getting used to the baby but he'll come around.

blenny looks great and it looks like you have a nice selection of frags. Keep an eye on the shrooms, they look like they are already spreading. Aptasia in the pics with the snails, get on that before it's too late

Thanks for the comment reefer, I got rid of that aptasia yesterday with the water change.
And I wish the shrooms were spreading, they are just getting bigger.

My brother-in-law picked up his corals that I was babysitting. I'm missing how full the tank looked, but that just means I have more room now!
Oh and I picked up some Kent pH buffer. My pH is consistently at 7.8

So I'll be testing and adding the buffer as necessary, I'll be posting results.
