Are you still acclimating your corals to the new lighting? What color led combinations are in your fixtures?

The color is between 22 to 25 k because it has 2 blues to 1 14k bulbs ratio on all of the light fixtures

Thanks!!!!! They'll be a couple of us picking your brain and asking a lot of questions when we get to the stage of building the DIY LED rigs.

Not much progress due to the holidays.....Did manage to final get the background I was hunting, and wanted to give a quick glimpse and get everyones opinion as to what they think.....Not sure if I want to go this route or explore the rock/foam wall idea a little more....
Need your opinions!!!!!!

I like it.
Bak in Jan 08 I decided to try out a reef flat biotope based mostly on this picture.

Thought about a lot of schooling damsels, cardinals etc. type fish. Started to set it up but after a while I realized the tank was just too small of a footprint to get what I wanted.
Went a long with it for a while though.

I think this a wonderful idea for your tank, especially with that background. JMO

Yep, you know I like the backround and it would like nice. I kind of like some of the rock walls that I've been looking at lately too though. The ones that are done right realy look good. And I think your tank would be perfect for one since it's so deep.

If you want I can build a small sample foam rock wall for you, since I have some extra eggcrate and foam laying around from the wall I built. This way you can look at the background and the foam wall, and see what you like.

Hey Henry beautiful setup!!!! Was sorta my original plan to a point. Hate seeing piles/walls of rock and looking for that cleaner look you showed. I have also thought about the bonsai look, and seeing the background on Corey's setup looked good. I'm after an open look feel for the tank. I will have to really look at your thread in super detail at home instead of on my phone.

Thanks Gemmy for the offer.... I did start pricing materials and was shocked at the price of egg crate these days!!!! That would be super cool if you could do a small mock up.... I'll shoot you a PM shortly.... Thank You!!!

What's everyones opinion on faux sand bottoms? Because of the high flow planned for the tank considering doing a layer o epoxy and while still wet sprinkling sand over top. Still haven't determined if I'm actually going bare bottom or SSB. Opinions? Thoughts?

If you don't mind not having any critters that like - live - need sand bare bottom is a wonderful thing. Faux sand IMO is okay if done form the outside bottom of the tank.

Honestly Henry I've never been a fan of hermits and never put them in my tanks. Hate them on my corals. They seem to love my frogspawns and hate it!!!!!
Not sure what you mean when you say from the outside of the tank?

Uuugggghhhh that disrupts my whole finish idea for the tank itself on the outside!!!!! I was just thinking about the faux look since I hate seeing sand heaped up in areas and seeing the bottom of the tanks....my last setup just running the OceanMotions 8way with the barracuda withe the nozzles mounted at the top would move the sand bed. Trying to come up with a game plan to avoid that. Will probably use an 8way again, pluse 3 Tunzes suffer in the external wavebox, and considering Tunze 6055 up top in each corner for flow.... Now you see my concern for sand blowing????:flame:

It's all good Henry.... Open and looking for ideas.... Have to hit Gemmy up for a mock up wall. I'm thinking it might look pretty good on the far end where the wavebox will be. I'll have to take some pics of what/where I'm talking about.

You know looking at the picture with the backround on there what I think would be cool...Keep the backround and basically trim all of the corners of the tank on the inside of the tank with rockwork like a rock wall. They would look kind of like pilars and you could incorporate some ledges or shelves into em for some frags or something. I'm out of ideas for the bottom. I say that unless you do sand then it's all going to get covered and won't matter anyway unless you plan on somehow keeping the bottom free of algea. Tint it sand colored would be what I'm thinkin.
