That sucks Shawn, but through your dilemas, I was able to FINALLY finish my LEDs for my little 18g cube.
Let us know whats wrong withthe pump though, Im curious to know whats up with it.
And i understand the liking of tangs, but sometimes nothing beats a wrasse for those pesky little pest bugs, like flatworms and whatnot.

A bit of an update, and more questions for Reeflo in the morning........
Got the replacement parts for the first pump in today after work.....After tearing the pump apart, I didn't notice anything abnormal with the original graphite seal, but went ahead and replaced the seal. Upon real close inspection I found the impeller cracked at the hub on the back where the seal is placed. The hub is cracked from the top to the base and starting back the backside of the impeller, so a pretty good chance that is why it leaked from the start. Both seals must be intact and with the crack was letting water past the the seal.......
To make it worse.....The instructions say from Reeflo that there should be a washer between the 2, and there is no washer.....I tore the other pump apart for a quick glimpse and that pump as well has no washer as well.......
Needless to say I will be emailing Reeflo in the morning about the "supposed" washer since neither pump has them. With the new seals and impeller installed I'm going to let it sit and fire it tomorrow and leak test it......

More updates today.......
As I had mentioned yesterday, I had received the replacement seals and installed them last night, and let the pump setup for a bit before putting water to it.......I had shot Beth @ Reeflo about the washer and she stated that if there wasn't a washer; then one isn't needed. Some models do have the washer though......Problem 1 solved......Upon close inspection of the impeller during dis assembly and reassembly this is what I found wrong with the impeller.....

If you look just below the white portion of the seal you can see the crack from the top of the seal area down the base. With the seal area cracked the impeller would never spin true, and the seal mates up to another seal in the pump housing, and would be gapped and allow water to bypass the seals.......
I also swapped out my Reeflo Dart Gold pump where I purchased it locally......Again another sealed box, and upon my surprise when I get home and start going over the pump looking for problems.....What do I find........

If you look closely at where the pump housing mates up and bolts tight to the pump volute.....The far left bolt/nut. Look at the gap in the pump housing and volute compared to the bolt on the right......Hmmmm makes me really start to question quality control these days......

That's nuts. I've always heard that they are solid pumps. But in this kind of market sometimes things can change pretty quick.

Always been reliable......I've used a total of 14 of these pumps and only 1 time after 2 years did the seal go out......

YIKES......maybe you need another brand
What other brand will push that kind of flow!!!!!!!
Ampmaster is the other and they are horrendous for leaks.......

Tonight I gave the original return pump another once over after replacing the seals last night, and finally got it re plumbed back into the system.....I swapped back to the Snapper impeller for this go round, and the pump is working.....No leaks, but the real test will be tomorrow or the following day to make sure it doesn't develop that hideous rattle as the CL pump did......Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!

Also while the pump was out and the water level was dropped down in the tank, I had a chance to drill the siphon break holes in the return lines.....Those pipes sure hold a lot of water.

Bumps........
Heck I was hit head on by a semi......Actually with a quiet pump it's almost scary how quiet the system is for the amount of flow......The only noise from the system is the trickling from the fuge area draining back into the sump. The MP60's are louder than anything.....Thank God they are in the fish room.......

HAHA, those MPs are kinda loud for what you pay for..... I believe we need some more pictures and maybe a video w/ some decent audio?
And them bumps suck, I know lots about them!

Yeah hopefully this evening I can get some time to take better pics and get a video.....Kinda hard the kids are always downstairs and have the home theater booming....My subs are dual 15's....

Yeah the MP60's are louder than what you'd expect, but again there has to be a little trade off, but EcoTech never marketed them as dead silent. Actually I've seen them comment they are noisier than the others, but there are some compromises I guess. Not really a big deal, because they are in the fish room and once the stand skin is in place I doubt very seriously you'll be able to hear anything. I didn't have to have it dead quiet, but quiet is always a plus.......The worse sound IMHO is the water trickling down from the fuge, but if that's the worse sound I have to deal with; then I"m not displeased at all......

What would you do with a PAR38 bulb on this behemoth? But it looks good, too many whits IMO though, I have a 2.5:1 blue:white ratio and I feel like i need optics on the blues just to get enough blue in the tank. but a 2.5:1 seems like an almost 14k halide bulb look.

Hey Josh just showing they updated/upgraded the PAR38 bulbs with the red LEDs.....Definitely not considering using them for my tank. Really the ratio depends on your eye....The end user....Some like it really blue others don't.....

Hmmmm....This might be useful for the horse tank. Much to ponder.
