Its a standpipe setup, so the water level always stay the same, I would much rather have it out of sight, yes the headaches start now, but its well worth it!

Just remember about the heater there during water changes....Possible the water level will/might drop during water change shut down and expose the heater.....

It shouldn't as long as I submerge the heater as far in the tank as I possibly can, even a 50% water change should keep it under water. On the other hand, I got my salt in, my specific gravity is 1.025, I have some salt laying on the bottom of my tank will this dissolve with time, or will it stay there?

Should dissolve, but you can always take your hand or something of that nature and kick it up......What's your water temp.....

Water temp was 79 this morning, all the salt has dissolved, there is no leaks, and everything looks good, i'll be adding in my live rock today, and then my first water change on sunday! yay!

Just checked out this thread for the first time. Lookin good man! Can't wait to see some aquascape pics. You should definitely try to make it out for the swap. You say you're and hour away from TFP? It's an 8 hour round trip for us, but having gone to this particular swap before I can tell you it's worth the trip.

Thanks man! Can't wait until I get off work so I can aquascape! I usually work on saturdays, so I don't think i'll be able to make it ;(. But I will keep my eye out for the next one. Your from Pittsburgh? I used to go to school there.

Question: I have a filter sock in my sump, I read the maintaince on them, and they seem like a total pain, any other options instead of them?

Someone told me to get some material from walmart and make my own and use a zip tie at the top, which sounds like the perfect solution. To snap a filter sock in place isn't hard, it's the washing them and such that creates the problem. JMO You can also put a couple of tablespoons of carbon in there to polish the water and prevent chemical war from the corals.

Yea, I saw that on the other thread about filter socks, I think I may buy 4 more, and swap them twice a week, then weekend will come and I'll clean 2 at a time, and let them dry and i'll have two fresh ones for the next week at all times

Well here it is!
There is my first one, set my light on top of the tank and took the picture quick, turned out really good, however I didn't like the way I had the rock so I did some reworking.

I moved some of the rock to the right and made a cave and a downward sloping hill, I liked this much better, and these pictures do no justice, it looks much better in person.

My friend is a photographer, when he comes over I'm going to get him to take some nights pictures so I can put them up, like I said these pictures do no justice for it, they are awful, thats what you get with a phone!

LOL....Beautiful, I like the rock choices you made with some longer branch type and not all round and bulky...
I hate the picture you get off of phones, they are so small on the phone, and if you send it to a computer the picture is just bad.
Make sure the rocks are good and stable.

Thank you! The only rock I'm slightly concerned about is the one I used I make the roof of my cave, it's stable, but it.could fall if hit hard enough

I tested my water sample last night, ammonia and nitrites were low, ph was 8.2, salinity 1.026, but my nitrates were in the range of 10-20ppm, I left my samples sit for about a half hour after I put all the chemicals in because I forgot about them, and I don't know if this screwed them up or what, I'm going to test it again tonight and see what it says.

Heres a few more pictures, I love it with the light on, makes it look so good.

Found this little white guy on there, not sure what it is, yesterday he was closed, now its half opened, and its green on the inside, anyone know what it is?
Paramaters: My SL is al little high today, 1.027, I guess the remaining salt desolved and made it go up
Ammonia: .25
Nitrite: .25
Nitrates: .5
Ph: 8.2
I have to give it to you snake, I'm really diggin the bare bottom, looks really good in my tank, everythings set except I still need to find a way to mount this light over my tank.
I got home today to find lots of air bubbles blowing into my tank, my water level was really low, and my pump was sucking air, the guy I bought it from had a water level marked, and I actually raised it a little, and it seems that there isn't enough! I can't believe that much water would evap in a day.

Before you get into a comfy zone and keep adding water.....Maybe run through a series of tests to see how much backflow your getting and adjust your sump water level from there......

Well, I use bioballs, I thought they were supposed to be only partially submerged in water, or can you completley submerge them underwater, if I can do that, then I can fill it way more.
