I used to work on a shrimp boat here in FL and the shrimp we used to get tasted really good. I'm not sure if my taste changed or if the shrimp changed, but after a while I just grew to hate the taste and it grosses me out now. Probably due to all the sewage being dumped close to where a lot of shrimpers end up fishing.
I've caught a lot of fish here that people swear don't taste like fish..but it's all the same to me...fresh or not.. Snook tastes just like fish..redfish tastes just like fish...trout tastes just like fish... It's almost like there is something in common with all of these things....
btw..anybody like scallops??? then have I got a story for you!...lol
I wanna hear your scallops story.

When we used to fish for scallops they were actually a "scallop" which is similiar to a clam. I remember them tasting really good.
Apparently they became pretty difficult to get ahold of due to over fishing and ended up becoming something completely different.....stingray.

Yeah, that is commonly known, but it is skate wing plugs. If the "scallops" on your plate are perfectly round and even thickness, they are probably skate wings.
---it only took 82 posts to go from rabid ex girlfriends to scallop imposters..

In many places these days, no. They can be just about anything and as stated, skates and stingray rank near the top.
Enjoy!

Around here it depends on if they are listed as Bay Scallops or Sea Scallops. Bay scallops are smaller and irregularly shaped, and are the real thing. Sea Scallops are larger and are usually perfectly round. They take a cookie cutter to skate wings and are somehow allowed to call them scallops.

Probably not. I haven't seen a "real" scallop since we fished for them 20+ years ago? I'm sure some places do offer real ones, but most are not.
A REAL scallop is about the size of the tip of your pinky to the first knuckle. Those HUGE things are cookie-cutter skate plugs.
Edit:
yeah, it is funny how off topic this got..lol I blame Cranberry..she started it.

Real scallops will cost an arm and a leg...so if you are paying a resonable price...they aren't real.

I did not know that about the scallops. That's why they are kind of bland down here when at home they are so sweet.
Southern California is pretty good about their fish and it's probably because of the dense asian population. I just love the Sushi from here. Now this food they call Lobster... whatever. It's like a watered down version of a Newfie lobster. Tastes nice, but way to mild. And no claws!!!
Now urchins.... I can't do it. I would try the roe if there wasn't 10lbs of pure snot you have to wade through to get to it. My stomach is turned before I pop out the orange balls. The fish really like it when I cut it up for them though.
Isn't this a better topic than complaining about girls? The argument is moot.... everything in your life centers around us whether you believe it or not. S.ex drives your lives, in one form or another, and unless you are locked in your room with a magazine.... well, need I say more about our importance.

My favorite fish recipie, (it isn't really a recipie) but I like to get some stealhead, salmon, Blue fish, dolphin fish, (didn't like it on grouper) or tuna and I'll take kosher salt, fresh cracked pepper, and some tony's then zest a crap load of lemon. Then coat it with olive oil. Then I let it sit (sometimes I'll cut up some fresh basil too). Then about 5 minutes before I squeeze some lemon on the fish, then toss it on the grill. It is good stuff...

Completely false about our "drive". Freud would have you believe that this "drive" controls our every thought, but in reality, he simply had his own inner demons.
What you mention is fun sometimes, but I'd trade quickly for a few LED light strips or a new coral.

I was talking from life experiences... not theories.
