Again I don't see how you can see these two disasters as being related at all, I would think a more valid comparison would be the flooding in KY and how well that is responded to, but wait that has not been on the 24 hour news cycle that much. Just saying.

They are on the same scale (Katrina and Oil spill) due to the huge amount of lives they affect and the huge amount of economic cost and so on. The key difference, Katrina had a huge amount of human suffering...this does not......yet.
On a sidenote. instead of debating the oil spill and looking for blame. Some of you could do something real easy to assist. I have all the grooming and hair salons I could contact dropping their hair off to my shop for shipment to help with the cleanup.

I was going to mention something about hair earlier. I saw a guy demonstrating this years ago. He basically took some oil and put it in a bucket of water. He added hair and stirred it around. He took the hair out and the water left behind looked prettty clean. He was working on pattenting something but not sure if he ever did.
My friend owns her own salon and I will forward the link to her.

If Goldman shorted the disaster, which could only mean they were short BP and Transocean it was a hell of a move. Unless they hired someone to sabotage the platform there wouldn't be a thing on earth wrong with it.

Reefraff, I think you just love bush,,,,,,,I mean the ex president.
No but considering what the Dems ran against him both times I gave him enough money to get the deluxe Christmas card

I am just disgusted with the pass Obama keeps getting. Did you hear his dispicable remarks about the attempted bombing in NYC? He actually said quick action prevented a terrorist attack. Hello? The bomb was in fact detonated and didn't explode. The terrorists stupidity is what prevented a explosion. Let's see if the media makes a big deal about that.

I think we have avoided several attempts now thanks to the stupidity of the terrorists. Time Square bomb is another example.

The bomb in that car never actually detonated. The bomb squad set it off. This guy that put that device together was an outright fool. He had antequated alarm clocks, and they are saying he had the time set for AM, when it was supposed to be set for PM. The design of the bomb was described as being straight out of the Anarchist Cookbook, and reminded them of the kid's game Mouse Trap (One event had to occur just right before the next would occur). He had some gun locker full of fertilizer, but it wasn't the explosive type (it was like a Scotts Weed and Feed). The entire plot was a comedy of errors. The idiot left DNA and fingerprints all over the place. He left his KEY RING full of keys in the ignition, even the one that went to his house!
He scratched off the VIN Number by the windshield, but didn't know it was also etched on the bottom of the engine block. One expert said, "It was like a guy walking into a bank to rob it, but forgot to put on a mask." Other experts stated a 'perfect storm' would've had to occur for the device to go off. Now if it had gone off, there'd defintiely been a big explosion.
It was the insight of the street vendor recognizing how this Pathfinder was parked in a right turn lane at the corner of the street with the engine running. That's when he walked up and saw something peculiar, and called a Beat Cop riding a horse. The actions of these individuals were what Obama was describing as the "quick actions that prevented a terrorist attack". It had nothing to do with the response from Homeland Security. After the FBI and Bomb Squad disarmed everything, it only took them, what, 2 days to track the guy down and arrest him?

"In the end, the device fizzled and the city and its residents counted themselves lucky once again: lucky that a vendor saw smoke creeping out of the car parked in one of the busiest streets in America; lucky that authorities responded quickly; and lucky that the would-be terrorists were clumsy enough to assemble a bomb that wasn't capable of exploding."
It was detonated. It was just so poorly designed it didn't explode.
I do gottta say they did a hell of a job tracking the guy down

Since there was smoke coming from the car, they may have actually avoided an explosion because where there is smoke there is fire and fire could have eventually caused an explosion.

From what I've heard this guy was on the no fly list but the airlines didnt update their database that day, so I would say that is the airlines fault

Did he say it was the airlines fault that the guy got on the plane? Didn't hear that one. What I've read is once Homeland Security identified the guy, they put his name on the 'No Fly' list. However, there's a disparity as far as the timeline for when they put the name on, and when the systems the airlines and airports use to monitor the list were updated. The guy walked up to the counter and paid cash for his ticket. I think his name was flagged by the airline attendant that was checking names when they started boarding the plane. So maybe the name wsn't on the list when he bought the ticket, but was on the list when he checked in at the gate?

I have no actual idea, I'm just reacting to what I read this morning where the Obama admin was pointing fingers at someone else, again...

I heard briefly on the radio this morning something about BP telling Congress that the spill could get either 10 times bigger or 10 times worse before it's fixed. Anyone hear what they were talking about? I need details!!!!

They're saying now that the site could actually start spewing 60,000 BARRELS/day before it's all over.

This new spill is very close to me. It's going to be nasty for a while for sure.
I'm really really really really shocked that there isn't some sort of law that forces them to have things on hand to patch leaks or fix/suck-up leaks... I can't believe they're making something NOW rather than having it on hand.
