Astrowars

Finally got to Science 4 and I'm now able to see 2 other star systems. So far, out all that can be seen, I'm on top so no immediate concern about a neighbor taking over.
I was contacted by my planetary neighbor who wants to play together. He is obviously a newbie like me.

What happens if someone who you ally with turns out to be the enemy? Like you are duped by someone who you thought was an ally, turns out to be an enemy that you have let into your backdoor? Is that a part of the game too?

I was reading a thread off the AW forums, and some guy was complaing about another guy he buddied up with, and then he attacked him, so I guess it does happen. :notsure:

That does happen but it is quite rare. If someone makes a NAP with you, I usually save the message. If they are under a NAP and they do unintentional damage they are supposed to repay you for your damages. I have found most people to be quite honorable.
If they completely ignore a NAP, you can post this in the forums and blacklist them. You should also send messages to everyone in the area.
I usually trust them. I would consider accepting someone as an ally if they seem like decent players and you hadn't been already planning on using them as potential targets. Find out what they do in real life and discuss your situation before you agree to anything. You can get an idea how reliable they are to communicate and get a sense of their morals.

Not sure that is possible online without knowing someone a lot longer than the duration of a game. It is way too easy to be bad online.

I can't believe doc. He is ranking all over the place. Should I throw out your name when I'm under attack just so all the space warriors know that I am in with The Big, The BAD space doc.

If you are on the main Rankings page, click on the bottom left on "Various Stats". It shows how many people are playing (7563 right now). It also shows what countries they are playing from (e.g. 16.1% of the players are from the US). You can also see how the top players are doing in their buildups. This can give you an idea to study a particular science if you notice that you are lagging in one particular area.
I have a large battle tonight ~8pm. If I win, I hope I can stay close to the top in the rankings. If I lose, my rankings will start to slip big time. It was fun while it lasted.

With those rankings doc, I don't think I'll keep up with you this beta. Of course I'll get PL4 today, so that should give me a big boost.

:scared: ....Some guy is sending 15 destroyers and 4 tranports to one of my planets. Should I build up the starbase, or make a fleet and launch it to that planet. I can make about 8 destroyers right now....and have 3 already circling other free planets......... heeelllppppp!!!:D

ok, I can actually make 15 destroyers, and I just sent 2 to the planet. I guess I'll go ahead and make the destroyers, and send them to the planet. I'm at level 4 on math and physics, so maybe I can put up a good fight..........."leeeet's geeeettttt reeeaaaadddy tooooo rrrrrrruuuuuuuuummmmmmbbbbllllleeee!!!!..............he-he:jumping:

on a more serious note, if I make destroyers at one planet, and don't launch them, are they protecting that planet, or do I have to launch them to the same planet?

If you are attacked, it is cheapest to build up a starbase. Any destroyers on your planet will also help defend it.
The Battle calculator helps to make these decisions. From the News page, go to help, and click on battle calculator at the bottom. This will help you calculate the probability of winning using different scenarios as well as calculate the experience points you will receive if you win. Usually it is to your advantage to buy starbase rather than destroyers. The only problem is that starbase is not mobile so it will only defend that planet while destroyers can fight multiple planets. Considering the flight time is halved if you are flying to your own planet, you can often get a good sized fleet to help defend.
If you win, that can be as much as 45 experience points (assuming you have two surviving destroyers). You may be able to get 2 supply units (which you might sell for over 800 astrodollars).
Good Luck!
