Unfortunately my 2nd ship is going to get there at 1am Friday and guess who will not be staying up for the occasion. :nope: Will I loose that effort?
You guys have been great talking with me about all this. Probably the rest of the BB not playing think we're nuts. LOL

Since you didn't take a hit to speed, it's not a real bead thing that your fleet hits before your culture goes up. Just relaunch the ships back at the same planet. They wont take as long to get back. It basically sends the ship in orbit, and it tries to land again. If your culture is up, than it'll take the planet. Do what doc said, and buy as many GC as pssobile between now and than.
Also I never send colony ships without a DS escort. As stated you never know who else may decide to launch at the same free planet. When going for a free planet, I almost always send 2 DS, and 3 colony ships.
Also as soon as possible I send 1 DS to every free planet in the system. This way if another player launches just a colony ship, and your DS gets there before they do, you just killed their colony ship. Plus you set them back a couple of days on getting their next planet. This can really hurt in the beginning of the game.

What happens to these ships later? I thought I read somewhere that you loose the colony ships or something? You can't redirect the ships can you [once they are launched and on their way to a destination]?

Ounce any ship is launched, it cannot be redirected.
Ounce a colony ship hits a free planet, and you have open culture, the ship disappears, and the planet becomes yours. If you send 3 colony ships, ship #1 takes the planet, and the other 2 ships turn into 15 PP's.
If someone has seiged the planet, and you have no DS, their fleet kills your colony ship, and your out 60 PP's, plus the time it took for you to get the ship there.

question, if I were to attack a single planet, and the guy has a starbase of level 3, what would be a good size fleet to go in with? And even if I lost, does his defense and fleet take losses. And can I launch fleets from 2 of my planets to the same destination?

also, I just noticed the guy with only 1 planet in my system has colonized another planet in a neighboring system. Is this a good strategy this early, or does it make a difference?

The only reason that I would consider this is if you know that you have an ally in the neighboring system and your current system is full of likely hostile players.
Usually it is best to concentrate on your home system for a few planets and then study biology and look outside your own system.
I took my fourth planet today in an outside system. It gave me a nice rise in the rankings:
Overall Player Highscore
sum(Population) + 3 * Player Level
+ each Science-Level above 20
Last Update 22:03:02 GMT Jul 22
# Name Points Change
1 +1 littlegood1 33 +6
2 -1 neyna 31 +2
3 +1 fumoffu 29 +4
4 +16 gomrui 28 +6
5 +6 swift 28 +5
6 +0 Premnas 28 +4
7 -4 travolta 27 +1
8 +8 olidhu 27 +5
9 +23 blam 27 +6
10 +27 elfdoctors 27 +6 :cheer:
I won't stay up here but it is a new high for me! Three NEMOs in the top 10!

That's what I was thinking.....we still have free planets in our system, so what's the point? Anyway, help me out, at what point should I attack someone, and with what? And yeah...."OooooKaaaay"....congratulations on your top 10 ranking...........(Doctors!!!!.... )....don't forget, without RN's, where would you be?...........:notsure: ........Don't answer that............:D ................

 I just took my first free planet. My pop growth hasn't moved in my original planet. Its still very slow. The points are slow. It takes hours just to get a few points and many hrs for science to move. Days for culture. What am I doing wrong?
Also, is the science and culture you have apply to all your "acquisitions"? I don't have a separate science screen for the new planet....its the same as the original.

Belothsurf, It is up to you when you want to attack. Just remember that destroyers cost a lot of PP's. I usually make sure I have the production base to support destroyers before I start building them in force (unless I am attacked). I TRY to fully outfit a planet (at least level 10's across the board, some people do level 12's) and then use all that planet's production to build destroyers. By the end of last beta, nearly all my planets were churning out 1 destroyer every hour.
BTW, did srit1 message you? I posted on your behalf and sent him a PM. I don't think that you are near any other NEMOs. Perhaps next beta...
Beth, your buildup will happen much quicker now that you have two planets. Did you send three colony ships? Each lab (regardless of how much it costed) and population level will increase your science growth rate by 1. I am up to 53/hr. If I wanted to, I can now get a level 1 econ in 32 minutes. By the end of the game, you may be getting a few hundred of points per hour. Culture builds up more slowly because it is only affected by how many cybernets you own.
Another way to build points is to increase your player level. An easy way to do this would be friendly fire. (Send two destroyers at an ally and your ally would do the same to you. Just make sure you have at least 2 surviving destroyers after the battle). Another option would be to attack a level 2 starbase of an inactive player. For each player level, you will get a supply unit. You can either sell these (price fluctuates but is now $460) or use these to build up your infrastructure. Don't use these for anything on your planets less than a level 12.

Ok, yeah, I;m going to need another 2 days to get to level 10, on everything, but I'll colonize my 3rd planet in about 8 hours. I've sent 2 destoyers to 2 free planets, just to at least put up a fight.
Also, thanks for backing me. He-he...., I had just read an archived fight between the Nemo's and some other alliance. Dr. Smith was the one writing the thread, and challenging the other alliance, so I was being a bit facetious, emulating him, when I presented my offer :D Tee many Martoonies also......:D
Anyway, no, I didn't receive a pm from srit. I saw this morning where he was asking where I was at, and that maybe I was too far away.
One thing I've figured out, from reading the forums, is that the Nemo's are not to be messed with.
Definetly next time, and I know several things I will do differently.
But this one ain't over yet!!! :D :D :D
Anyway, if I attack someone, how do I know that they are not part of an alliance? I certainly wouldn't want to attack a Nemo................

There are no official alliances yet. You can attack anyone right now. Later on, when the alliances form, players will have their alliance tag on their player description. The Nemos charge $A750 to join their alliance. (There is a ~$A20,000 charge to the alliance founder to form the alliance). The numbers involved sound staggering but growth tends to be somewhat exponential over the course of the game. People have a harder time getting to player level 5 (which is also required) than they do raising the money.

You'll probably see alliances Formally start to form within the next 2 weeks.
elfdoctors,
Congrats on the rankings. I've dropped to #447. I'll gain alot of points tonight though, and should move back up.

Believe it or not, I think I will rise in the rankings today. I will have three population points and I now have a 10 destroyer hostile fleet headed my way this afternoon which I can easily defeat. I have 25 destroyers on that planet already (as I was planning on attacking his home planet soon). He also has a -3 to attack. That will get me to level 2 and 6 points today. I think that I should be able to launch to take his home planet for my 5th planet late tonight.
SammyStingray/JohnnieWrath - this will get you an additional culture point every day as I registered using your post initially.

My attempt to colonize 3rd planet failed because my culture is too low. What happened to my colony ship then? Is it circling the planet? How many cybernets do you need to get to culture 3 for goodness sakes. I have 10. This is very frustrating. It takes too long. My neighbor has colonized his first planet.

The ship should still show on your fleet screen. You should be able to relaunch it back at the same planet.
It's not the number of GC that you have, that determines how many planets you can take. It determines how quickly you get to the next level.

I just sent 3 destroyers and 2 transports to another guy's planet. He hasn't logged in in three days, so I hope I can beat him.....My first battle...:D I'm so nervous:nervous: :nervous: .
Even if I lose, do I still get experience, and does it count towards my player level? Or do you have to win?

You have to win to get ANY experience points. In addition you have to win with two surviving ships (of any one type) to get full experience.
I have moved up in the rankings all the way to #3.!!!!?? I know I will fall tomorrow as I don't have the opportunity for many points until the day after tomorrow. This may be my 15 minutes of fame.
