Thanks for the info. I have read that there is a food out there that fish love but it serves no nutritional value at all and I think that food is mysis. It that right?

No, Mysis shrimp is good, it's Brine shrimp that holds no nutritional value. With that said though, it was the only thing my Clowns would eat when I first got them, but they now eat anything and everything.

Here are some updated pics of my QT. Tried to make it a little more Goby friendly. I'm worried about the little guy though because he's breathing fast, sign of stress. I'm wondering if the Cardinals are scaring him. :scared: He was hiding out in the rock cave but one of the Cardinals would also go in there and I noticed the Goby was breathing fast. So I put a PVC pipe in the sand so he would have a place to hide, and the Cardinals would not be able to follow. He was inside the pipe earlier, but now is outside it. I'm really worried about him.
I haven't seen him sift any sand at all. I've turned off the lights and am hoping he'll settle down. All water parameters are good. The Cardianls are doing great, eating, not fighting with each other, and I haven't seen the Cardinals make any aggressive moves toward the Goby. I'm now wondering if I should have just left the Goby at the lfs until AFTER I was done putting the Cardinals in my DT.

i'm sure he'll pull through. just give it a day or two. my goby also never sifted sand in the first day. and i doubt the cardinals touch the goby, they are to lazy!
lol. but on a serious note, i would keep and eye on them, maybe check on them at night to see if they are picking on him then.

I think he will be ok. I also hope he pulls through as that is one of my favorite fish. I hope to get one soon. Good luck with the little guy.

My Goby just died!!!!

I'm going to call the lfs tomorrow and see if I can get a store credit or something, I mean it's only been 24 hours. Even still, I loved that little guy. $26 down the drain! I don't want to get another one, I'll just wait until my Cardinals are in the DT, and then maybe try another Goby by himself next time. I feel so bad. I feel like I caused the death by putting him in the QT with the Cardinals.

Dam those gobys! sorry to hear your loss. if its only 24 hours, your LFS should give you store credit. once again, sorry for your loss.

Maybe not a logical question, but why do you have them in the QT for so long? I usually just drip acclimate and in they go the same day. All my fish do just fine by doing that. Just curious. BTW, sorry about the Goby.

He was such a nice looking little guy! It probably wasn't anything you did wrong. He was probably sick at the store and would've died there anyway if you didn't take him and give him a loving home to spend his last hours.

QT all fish before sticking them in the DT will save me a lot of headaches in the future. Especially after going through a bad case of ich in my freshwater tank. Didn't QT new fish and ALL my fish came down with ich, never again! QT for three weeks will ensure that I have a healthy fish and if it does die (like my Goby) he's real easy to take out. If this guy would have died in my DT it would have been a pain to get him out. I'm not saying that I won't ever have a fish die in my DT, but I think QT for at least 3 weeks is being smart about what you put into your main DT. I QT my clowns and guess what, 2 1/2 weeks into it they came down with ich (which means they already had it, but it took 2 weeks for me to see it). Having them in the QT allowed me to Hypo right away, without effecting my inverts in the DT.

On a more postive note here are some pics I took this afternoon of the "living". BTW, Bangaii Cardinals are still doing great and eating every piece of mysis shrimp that's put in.

I know most lfs have a reputation for giving bad advice or not being there for their customers, but I have to say I'm one of the lucky few. As you all know my Goby died last night
, but I just talked with Mark at the lfs (yes, we are on a first name basis now since he sees me at least once a week :hilarious ) and he said not to worry about it, he'd replace the fish when I was ready. :cheer: I told him I wanted to wait until the Cardinals were in the DT so the Goby can be in the QT by himself and not be stressed and he said that would be fine, to just remind when the time came. Now we'll see what happens when that time does come, but my lfs hasn't let me down yet, so I'm sure they will keep their word.
RIP my little Goby friend, loved you while I had you.

I am so sorry for your loss az. But dont worry about it. Its nothing you did. Not every fish makes it. At least both cardinals are doing great.

So sorry about your goby, I hate losing fish. I have only lost one, and it was my first fish, or part of the pair of perc clowns I first bought. It was so sad, I knew he wasn't doing so well, so I was watching him when I turned out the light, the female tried and tried to help him swim(atleast thats what it looked like). He finally gave up the ghost and I took him out as the nassarius snails moved in, I was so pissed at those snails. They just seem to have personality. Sorry again about the lil guy.
