Thumbs up! Also remember why Washington went back to being a general, it wasn't just due to the xyz affair. Remember the speach JFK said weeks before he was shot.... if presidents have admitted theirs an organized plan for "wants coming to fruitation now in the US and world".... than... maybe....

Benrock - great quotes - here is another favorite - FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK DISAGREEING WITH PRESEDENT NON-ELECT BUSH NOTE WHO SAID THIS:
Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
Also here is one from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
Great men are they who see that spiritual is stronger than any material force; that thoughts rule the world.
For all of you who think freedom allows us or imbues us with the right to hold judgement over another race/country/religion keep in mind freedom does just the opposite. We can not go into a country for any reason we wish and do as we please - that is not freedom that is despotism.
Definition of Despotism: A government or political system in which the ruler exercises absolute power
Did we not send soldiers to Vietnam to stop the spread of communism?? I know that is what the government told my father before they sent him .....
Did we not send soldiers to Afghanistan to bring back Al Qaeda and Ossam bin Laden? I know that is what the government told my brother before they sent him .....
Did we not send soldiers into Iraq to ensure that we find and destroy all of those weapons of mass destruction to keep us safe? That is what they have told my neighbor, my good friend, 4 of my co-workers and thousands of others ....
:nope:
Of those three things what did we have a duty to our country to accomplish?? Which one(s) did we know for sure NEEDED to be done??

Great post overanalyzer. Brings to mind another important quote I think should be shared. Once again, notice who said it:
Beware of the leader, who strikes the war drum in order to transfer the citizens into patriotic glow, patriotism is indeed a double-sided sword. It makes the blood so boldly, like it constricts the intellect. And if the striking of the war drum reached a fiebrige height and the blood is cooking and hating, and the intellect is dismissed, the leader doesn't need to reject the citizens rights. The citizens, cought by anxiety and blinded through patriotism, will subordinate all their rights to the leader and this even with happy courage. Why do I know that? I know it, because this is, what I did. And I am Gajus Julius Cäsar:
Gaius Julius Caesar

On a very related development, according to drudge:
"Army Plans to Call Up Thousands of Reserve Troops
Mon Jun 28 2004 19:48:09 ET
For the first time since Operation Desert Storm, the Army plans to announce this week an involuntary mobilization of thousands of troops from the Individual Ready Reserve, various press outlets are planning to report.
The move, which Army officials say is likely to involve notifying roughly 6,500 soldiers about a possible deployment, is meant to fill holes in active and reserve units preparing to go to Iraq and Afghanistan this fall and early next year.
Pentagon officials have said for weeks that tapping from the Individual Ready Reserve was in the works. The Army's plan is being explained this week on Capitol Hill in advance of the announcement, expected on Wednesday, defense officials said.

For the 18 year old tough guy's who want to be heroes out there, it is very unwise to go dodge bullets for reasons unknown to you.

dude, i cried when i ran over two racoons, what the hell would i do in war :(

This is the smartest thing i've read in this post.
I feel sorry for people who arent saving for retirement because this generation will not be able to support the boomers and the children of the boomers.
By the way, we won't see a draft. And you can quote me.

The all-volunteer force is working better than anyone's wildest expectations. Why would anyone entertain the thought of a draft?

the dead give away that it is all B.S.
is that the draft applies to women!!!
It would be impossible for the draft to apply to women simply because women do not have to register when they turn 18!
The draft is based on men who register when they turn 18.
Their names get assigned numbers and get thrown into the bin if there is ever a draft.
Also, the draft boards have never stopped.
Draft boards are not active but they have since the last draft in the 70's been keeping their lotto machines in working conditions.
and I hope there is a draft, it will get all the gang members off the streets!
and when they return, they will either clean up their act or be better shooters and not miss on their next drive by shooting and kill an innocent person

I hope that was in jest, because that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard, coming from a "law student" no less.
In other news:
Sitting in the stands two weeks ago at the Army-Navy game, I can tell you this country is in fine hands with these young men.
