Between the positive feedback I have gotten of this board and countless positive reports from gun threads I have decided to go with the XD-9 Subcompact. I'll even keep you guys posted on how the wife handles the weapon. Of course we are still waiting for the handgun permits to pass through the US Supreme Courts so it may be some time before I can even lay my hands on it...

Just wait after some "criminal" dies from a tazer you'll have some "human rights" activist saying that they are dangerous and shouldn't be used. The police were brutal by shooting him and they should be taken out of the hands of law enforcement. Never mind the alternative is shooting the guy with a real gun. The morons, these people just don't make sense.
I don't know a whole lot about guns, but I can't wait to get my permit. I used to work at a radioshack in a rural town it would crack me up I'd get these 70 year old ladies writing a check and handing me their handgun liscense for an ID. Now that is what I'm talking about.
It just doesn't make sense for people not to want law biding citizens to not own or carry a weapon. If the criminal wants one he is going to get one. And they aren't going to bother with the paperwork.
My cuz is force recon, he had both his cars stolen in one day, and suspected they were going for the house, since his cars were recovered quickly without any damage, but his personal information was taken. So he sent the kids and the mom on base. And staked out his apartment, that night when the criminals hit his house he was ready. Because honestly what are the cops going to do? They are too strapped chasing other things then to stake out his house. He took care of the problem and those guy are now in prison, because he had the skills as well as the weapons to address the problem.
Seriously who are you going to depend on besides yourself? The police won't be able to respond in time to address an instant threat.

thats great that those places have worked out, but im sorry, i just dont believe i have to carry any weapons on me or in my house and my family members believe the same, and so does my future wife.
Thats because they were 24" wheels. If they were 25" wheels everything would have been different.
Sounds like your a lucky person.

The Taser is a great tool. The ride is not that bad. I've done it three times now for training purposes. Just having it on the belt has stopped quite a few people from being stupid.

The problem is when the tazer comes out, we are not worrying about the injury from the tazer. We are more worried about, when we do have to shoot someone, the questions is going to come up "WHY DIDNT YOU TAZE THEM".
I can understand people protecting themselves and in your story he did a good job. If he did not alert the police to the problem, I do have a problem with that. And sayind that the police "WONT" be able to respond in a time to address and instant threat. Even people who are ready really cant respond to and "instant" threat. If someone wants to do harm then they will no matter what you have to go back at them with. Just like an alarm on a house or car will not stop a career thief.
Where i work live Bergen County NJ it is only 234 sqare miles, YET we have 72 different police jurisdictions. Town i work in is only like 1.9 aquare miles. We have timed it and MOST cases we have a 30 second response time for 1st officer to arrive. So here we are on top of something just after it happens. I can not speak for the towns that have 100 square miles and 1 cop has to cover 30 of it.

He did call the police, before, then after they broke in.
LOL, 1.9 square mile town. I've riden with family member in Dallas, there are no 30 second response times, in Dallas. It takes that long to get the call from the dispatcher to the car then to turn around in the right direction.
I live in a rural area, response times here are measured with sundials and calenders. And guns are as much for rattlers and cougars as for guys jumping the wall at the state pen.

LOL!
Ya here we have great response times. There was a story of a guy who lived in a trailer park and his trailer kept getting broken into. So he set a boobie trap, then next time someone broke in the boobie trap set off a gun and killed the intruder. The owner of the trailer went to jail.

I have a Ruger .357, model SP101. It is small, just right for my small hand and my husband also loves it. It is a perfect revolver for a female.

True true... I have a mossberg cruiser, and when I bought it this guy tells me "Hey you know the best part about this gun?", so I play along and say "no, what"... "It's bilingual"... He works the action and says "I dont give a ---- if they cant understand English, they'll understand that". I've heard my grandfather say that before but it cracks me up everytime...

That funny. I hadnt heard that before.
There is definately something to be said about the destinctive sound of a shotgun being racked. It is perhaps the ultimate home defense weapon. No need to worry about where your rounds end up. Heck you dont even have to worry about aiming!!! You can neutralize a threat with your eyes half open with a shotgun!!!!

I purchased my wife a Beretta 3032 .32 cal Tomcat (There is a jpg under "Gun Thread"). It's not my favorite but she's very happy with it. It's small, very concealable and quite fun to shoot. However, it is not accurate past seven or eight feet and it expels the casings about 25 freaking feet (I mentioned that because I was tagged in the face by one). It's suited for personal protection.
