Nice looking pistol. I've been looking into that myself. Then I'll be a real Texan. hehe

"its better to have it and not use it, then to need it and not have it". muahhaah for now i have pepper spray. then later imma get e a tazor gun. at least i can mess with the person who trys to attack me and laugh at his failed attempt as i taze him.

I cant wait for the technology to come out with smart guns that are foolproof so that the guns cant get out there. I know that i am asking for something that is almost impossible. That is really the only way to conrol illegal gun sales. But that will not correct the lax CC laws in some states.
But you still have about 250 million good old fashioned "dumb" guns out there that aren't going away.

Have you seen that light gun they are developing for citizen use? (I think it is Tazer) Supposed to be an intense flashing light that will disorient an attacker. Only problem I see with something like that is some idiot teenager will think its cool to flash one at a passing car and get someone killed

wow, did anyone help you with your question here? I personally carry the springfield xd 40 and love it. shoots very good and is very reliable. it is a bit large for summertime concealment so i am looking in to getting something a little smaller. as for a weapon for a woman I feel it is a bit too much for them to handle under a stressfull situation. i bought the bersa thunder 380 for my girlfriend and she loves it. shoots very nice, small enough for her purse and she can fire it very well and controlled. great value of a weapon too. i will probably look in to the new walther for my ccw and keep the springfield for home defense. let me know if you have any other questions and i will try and help ya out as well as i can. Nice...
I carry around a Glock29...Seems rather large but works well in the woods against rabid raccoons..

There is actually a flashlight that has a strobe at the end. and when you turn it on BLAMO totally messes up the person that is looking at it.

The subcompact xd-9 has a 16 round extended mag...

Doh the mag will be bigger than the actual gun.

Well I'm going through the handgun hoops here in NC now and it is a little over the top. For a resident of my county that is non military they have to go to the courthouse, pay a $15 fee for a background check that comes back instantly, then get a form from the sheriffs dept. that has basic information and includes 3 references (if you know a NC law enforcement officer all you have to do is put their name down - no references required - what a joke). Then you return this back to the sheriffs department and have a minimum of 10 day waiting period before you find out if your allowed to spend $5 apiece on permits. I thought that Brady bill garbage was only 5 days???
Now the part that makes me a little disgruntled... A UNITED STATES MARINE has to do all this in addition to getting a form filled out by your BATTALION COMMANDER and then take this form to PMO so they can then do another background check on you. Not to mention the fact that this letter has a 10 day expiration date and if not turned into the sheriffs department you will have to repeat this process all over again.
I think my service to my country alone should be reason enough to allow me a little leeway in the permit process. Whats the difference in a Marine with a clean record buying a handgun and some local citizen with a clean record that knows the Sheriff buying a handgun? Man, this thread has pushed me into the rant mode too....

Here you apply and hope to get your FIrearms ID card back in less than 6 months. You come here, get printed the sent to the FBI and wait for them to process. We do full background check, DMV check, references. If you have had like 2 dwi's in a certain period you are out of luck. Medical release. all this for card.
Now to get a permit it is the exact same thing, just that we run a check on you dont need prints any more. So to get a permit it is a couple weeks.
But this is a good thing. Yes you will need to wait but for those who might want to get it just cause they want to, many not go through the trouble to do it.
Here to get your ID card you have to shell out like $70 total.
Like i said earlier forget about a CC permit.
I agree with you, that if you have military and you did have any dishonorable discharges then that should count for something. But you should still have to go through the background check.

Its actuall pretty clever the way I see it. You have the extended mag for range shooting/home defense. The other mag it comes with is 10 round which is your carry mag.
The extended mag gives you the same grip as the larger compact if I remember correctly.

Well that actually made me feel a little lucky to not have to deal with all that. I also agree totally that everyone should go through a background check in order to purchase any firearm. I just dont see why I have to go through a more scrutinized background check than the average joe, thats all.
But it is what it is and now all I have to do is wait for them to call me and say "come pick up your permits". I'm just glad all the legwork is over with...

I can (not technically out in town but we could always do this in a third world country).

I know this thread is completly off topic but thanks to those of you that gave me some input on Springfields XD line. Honestly I expected no response off of a salt water fish board and was shocked at how this thread took off. Yes in the wrong direction but at least here and there some on topic points were brought up and I appreciate it...
Between the positive feedback I have gotten of this board and countless positive reports from gun threads I have decided to go with the XD-9 Subcompact. I'll even keep you guys posted on how the wife handles the weapon. Of course we are still waiting for the handgun permits to pass through the US Supreme Courts so it may be some time before I can even lay my hands on it...
