Well I'm going through the handgun hoops here in NC now and it is a little over the top. For a resident of my county that is non military they have to go to the courthouse, pay a $15 fee for a background check that comes back instantly, then get a form from the sheriffs dept. that has basic information and includes 3 references (if you know a NC law enforcement officer all you have to do is put their name down - no references required - what a joke). Then you return this back to the sheriffs department and have a minimum of 10 day waiting period before you find out if your allowed to spend $5 apiece on permits. I thought that Brady bill garbage was only 5 days???
Now the part that makes me a little disgruntled... A UNITED STATES MARINE has to do all this in addition to getting a form filled out by your BATTALION COMMANDER and then take this form to PMO so they can then do another background check on you. Not to mention the fact that this letter has a 10 day expiration date and if not turned into the sheriffs department you will have to repeat this process all over again.
I think my service to my country alone should be reason enough to allow me a little leeway in the permit process. Whats the difference in a Marine with a clean record buying a handgun and some local citizen with a clean record that knows the Sheriff buying a handgun? Man, this thread has pushed me into the rant mode too....
