one of my 7 yr old twins did the whiter large star one and I like that much better for some reason than the ones I did which are the greener ones....they always out glaze me.
Had a little crisis ...I discovered the heat isn't working. I turned it on because the last two nights were very cold and I was afraid the tank water would drop too low at night....so I actually put sleeping bags over the tank and aimed a space heater at it and in addition dropped in another tank heater while waiting for pseg to come figure out the problem. Wierdly enough this all worked fine and the temp stayed around 74-76,

Nice tiles all the same :)
Be carefull too much of a temp variance (specially with directed heat/cold) might crack the tank over time. (if glass) Hope yo ucan get the heat fixed soon. Ac/heat going out is always a pain to get fixed.

They may be less conspicuous above the tank....I will probably use 3 white pendant halides to light the tank and hide their ballasts behind the wall in the laundry room.

Yes you should put a frame around them and I believe you should paint them blue and red!!

Heats fixed...it was a blown ?on off switch? or something simple to replace...(or more likely it all happened because I didn't know you have to change the furnace filter every month....its been in about a year!!!unchanged!!!) so guess where I am going...to buy some extra heaters!.
I don't think I am going to use the tiles, they suck. the stand looks better without them.

Sorry to hear about the heat issue.......I just left Lowes and picked some filters up for myself.....I usually buy the 3 packs and try to stay on top of the filter game.....I usually leave a note on the front of the refrigerator to remind myself to change it out........

well the good old sleeping bags worked! And I slept on the couch near the tank all night to periodically check the temp...everyone is fine it only went down to 76, now its up to 80 again....no casualties....and now I have a few extra aquarium heaters and a million extra furnace filters....

OK...here is the problem. Now I am getting scared of glass....there seems to have been alot of threads of tanks or glass sumps cracking?!...there is ongoing debate over what to sit glass tanks on, foam or no foam...and I was sorry to see some nasty bashing...Is it really safe to load a glass tank with sand and live rock, the amount needed for a reef system?

Yeah it's safe, and sorry about your scare, but look around not only this site, but the big gun site, and if it wasn't safe everyone would be using acrylic.......

Many of the cracking issues where due to bad installation of baffles or heat/cold hitting the tank directly or rapid temp changes and some bad shimming or bracing. Least the ones i saw. Many of them where at least in part human error.

Exactly.....Anything can happen with any given system, but you try to take the human error factor out of things, and as you say the "foam" issue got out of hand.....The foam takes out any minor irregularity, that can't possibly be fixed.......

Ok ...thanks guys...for some reason I didn't get notice of your replies which is why I'm late responding....You guys all know what you are doing and I do not which is probably why I began losing confidence, or maybe I got to a burn out point....I removed all the family room carpet myself to save money, and was going to paint the whole room myself, but the walls are so high that in the end I found a handyman to help with a high ladder. Then everything got finished and the room looks soooo great? I got worried about the tank cracking, and flooding the room....then I began thinking too much, maybe I should plumb this tank to the basement too? Now I know that plumbing to the basement is such a beautiful thing!!!! But how?...maybe I should have put the over flow on the other side of the tank, and go through the wall and down to the basement, maybe I should leave it where it is and go straight back through the back wall and into the laundry room and just keep the sump in there, or maybe come down and through the door of the stand and put the sump under the stand? So I stopped dead for awhile trying to think of what would be best.....Then a tree fell in the yard from a storm and I had to deal with that. so finally, I got some help carrying this tank in from the garage...All I can say is wow!!! I'm getting my nerve back again....but what should I do about all my plumbing confusion?

I drew lines to try and show the 3 possibilities for running the plumbing.
1. put the overflow on the left side and go through the wall and under the kitchen floor to the basement.
2.go out and then back through the back wall and into the laundry room. then just keep the sump in there
3. go out and down and then through the door of the stand and into an under the stand sump.....

I was also thinking that would be the easiest for me. I already have a way for the tank to drain directly into the laundry room sink, and be refilled by water in the basement using the other tank's pump....well its kindof a weird girl plumbing way, but it should work ok.
