Its not loud per say but noise travels though water a lot more then it does in air and the pump is "loud" for inside of a tank. Plus it is resting on the glass is 100lb of rock around it.

Didn't read it anywhere but one of the fish stress things in the archives talks about noise causing fish stress. Don't know if it is true but I just figured being in a confined space with a bunch of noise would drive me nuts and my fish.

Looking good, kid! I'm sure you will work out all your problems. Always problems with new tank.

What's the empty tank with screen top going to be??

Thanks SB. Ya. Have an idea in head about a DIY chiller so going to see how it turns out. Already have thoughts going.
I don't know yet. I was thinking of a mini reef aquarium. Only problem is I want to have it conect with my big tank for better filtration for both. Probably won't house fish, but seeing how that always changes.
-oh and the screen isn't going to stay, it just came with it.
Thanks. Cycled today and corals are looking better already.
My idea of no powerheads in tank failed. I put one in and the water is moving a lot more now. Last but not least I got my pb on three miles day.

It did not cycle. I let it "cycle" for a two days but had to move my bed back in and get everything ready for school, so I just had to throw the stuff in. If I were to do it again I would defenitly cycle it sense not cycling it cause many of the problems.
Question: What all does copper harm?

These almost never work. The motors needed are special because they don't burnout from prolonged use, that's why chillers are so freaking expensive.

Cycle was in qoutes because it was the only word I could think of.

So if copper is so bad then why use it to treat things?

Pumps have prolonged use to. I don't see why you need a certain motor for something that is going to be ran just as long as a pump or maybe shorter. Are they special because they cool? Anyway I am not planning on useing on a special motor.
Thanks Nep

Your dosing in controlled amounts to kill parasites, and even that amount is arguably questionable since there are other methods to cure disease. But if you dont believe me, go ahead and use copper, and watch it leach uncontrolled into your system.
Same general principle on the chiller, learning the hard way is sometimes the best way. Can you DIY a chiller? ya its possible. But is it likely you will have success? If i were betting, i would do it against you. At any rate, good luck in your venture, read up on the topics carefully and be absolutely sure you want to go a specific route.
And your welcome.

copper is bad for a reef tank. esp. your inverts. copper is more so for fish only tanks. copper will also leach into the silicone in the tank and will never go away. IMO never put it in a reef tank.

Another Question (I know right, I am just full of them). How does it harm reef tanks and inverts. etc. And why are fish not harmed?

Oh I am not using copper, just a question for something else. *but still want to know about last question*.
I am willing to try a diy chiller for under $50-$100 and possible work, then pay for a $600 one.
Sad update.
PB has ick. Yellow tang showed no signs. I put some rally medican in the tank yesterday and some today. PB seems better. Might be because ick just showed first sign. Second I didn't have the lights on today for ditams (sp) were bugging me and spread a lot faster with lights on. Was this ok?
Thanks everyone
