wow a 72g qt! If I were you I would make it into abother reef then get a 20 or 30g for a qt. Then you can have 2 tanks lol. I still have a small 20g hex tank I am going to make into an aussie acan and zoa tank in the future.

ok well yesterdays params were
sal-1.026
trite-0
trate-0
ph-8.1
am-.25
todays params were
sal-1.026
trite-0
trate-0
ph-8.1
am- 0-.25
so my question is could that have been my cycle? can the ammonia go to .25 and then back down in like a day?? if so wont the trite spike a little then trate? is it possible i wont have that much of a cycle since the only live uncured stuff was 20 pounds of live sand and 50 pounds of live rock out of the total of 60 pounds of live sand and around 185 pounds of rock?

my guess is either diatoms or cyano. pics? Unfortunately these can be common within the first few months of setup. As the pods start multiplying and once cuc is in there... hopefully it will get cleaned up.

well its not cyano im pretty sure its diatoms, also is there anyway to help boost the pod population? what if i buy pods from here? it would probably help if i set up the refugium...
lol
also i am thinking of waiting one more week for the cycle because then my tank would have been set up for a month...

Fish Wish List:
2 Clownfish (I have in my 72)
1 Yellow Headed Jawfish
5 blue/green chromis
1 lawnmower blenny
1 Yellow Wrasse-
1 Blackcap Basslet
2 bangaii cardinals
1 citron clown goby
1 green clown goby
1 flame wrasse-- or should i get this after the tangs?
1 Blue Hippo Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1-2 neon goby (those black and blue ones)
1 Mandarin Dragonet
ok so i have been looking at my fish list and ive thought of changing some things... See any problems with this? I will add the Mandarin when the tank is ready 6 months+
does this list look ok?
thats in the order i was thinking of getting these fish in the sections i put them in does it look ok? too much?
ok so if its too much what would you guys suggest taking out? if not do you think it would be ok to add a sailfin tang to the list? if so is there any size that i should trade it in for another?

I would do at least 2 to 3 neon gobies. Do this before the two tangs to help out with cleaning process.

what do u mean the cleaning process? as in like help taking care of ich? or like actually cleaning? and idk if i want to get 2-3 of them i ready they live like 1-3 years max but i could be wrong also im unsure of what all they eat.. i know they clean fish a little do they eat anything else? if not then i would prob stick to just one so i make sure i dont starve it..
*edit* ok just read a little about them i might get 2 idk

thats a little overstocked in my opinion. I would probably scratch the chromis and one of the gobies or 2.

Fish that will swim around all over all the time:
1 Yellow Wrasse
1 flame wrasse
1 Blue Hippo Tang
1 Yellow Tang
5 blue/green chromis
Fish that will pick like half or less of the tank and swim around:
2 Clownfish (I have in my 72)
1 Blackcap Basslet
2 bangaii cardinals
Fish that will stay near the rocks most of the time:
1 lawnmower blenny
1 citron clown goby
1 green clown goby
1-2 neon goby (those black and blue ones)
1 Mandarin Dragonet
Fish that will stay in the sand:
1 Yellow Headed Jawfish
still look over crowded?? or are you talking about too much bioload for the tank?

i was just pricing out the inverts/cuc i wanted and it is alot more than i was expecting... i would get most of them right after the cycle
this is what i was thinking..
*2 cleaner shrimp*
2 copepods-group of 200
*1 fire shrimp*
3 or 5 peppermint shrimp
*20 tongan nassarius snails*
*20 astrea snails*
1 boxing/pom pom crab
1 porcelain crab
3 or so feather dusters (maybe hand picked..)
*1 coco worm (hand picked)*
*1 red linkia star (much later)*
First group would be initial cuc, second list is just some other inverts i plan on getting down the road..
is there anything bad with this list? should i get rid of anything? i put stars next to things i really want

Looken good! Might want to be careful with lawnmower blenny and the other rock dwellers but besides that it looks good.

do you think its cycled now?? the tank has been up for like 3-4 weeks i think, also since there is a lot of algae growing now, dont you normally have an algae bloom after a cycle? or is it during a cycle?

some rock dwellers will fight each other because they get food the same way so they fight down their competition or so ive read.
