Flower's Sump/Fuge Build

I have to get the house ready for Sabbath...I have to also clean up the two canisters and the skimmer and get them out of here and into the gargage. The house is a wreak. So I will get that stuff done before I play with turning the now working sump off...LOL..I won't have an overflow because I turned it on and off maybe 8 times before I figured out how to prime the overflow. I have not added anymore water since.

Sounds good Flower!!! Just double checking, but when you shut it down you left it off long enough so the water stopped flowing from the DT? I figured you could run about 8" of water depth in the return section and still be ok!!!!!
The brook sound will get a little quieter after a bit, but you also have to keep in mind the doors are open and a totally new sound to you.
Again congrats on some very hard work, but knew you could handle it. It's official guys; she's converted "sumpster"........
PS. We need pics and video!!!

the tubes I was refering to were the ones on the aqualifter that go into the red piece on that pump. the one starts the syphon and the other returns what water it sucks up. You can see them clearly in the second picture in post #1548. I would change those tubes out for all black tubes so that you dont get algea growing in them.

Sorry for pestering Flower:laughing: I remembered you talking about the bubble tower noise, and lines only going down so far. It might be possible to extend the line or fill the bubble tower more with rubble rock if it's to unbearable??

fuge should be very easy to get going once your sand comes in, I wouldnt worry about that being difficult exspecially with the shut off valves the guys have between the two should make it a snap.

Flower I was thinking once you have your sand in you should utilize COreys ball valve and open it just a little and let the water slowly drain into your fuge with the sand, while it is doing that add water to you sump return area. Just a thought - might help reduce the sand storm.

I also saw a list of tips and tricks the otehr day and one that I found interesting was the guy puts a garbage bag on the bottom of the tank and then drains the water onto teh bag so that the sand doesnt get hit at all and then jsut remove the bag slowly when your done.

I think the idea witht eh garbage bag is that it covers all the sand so there is no sand getting stirred. I use a plate myself, but the water still pours off the edge of the plate and can still casue some cloudiness.
I havn't tried the garbage bag yet, but I can see the benefits. actually if it floated that would be sweet too as long as it still stayed around the hose going in, would make the bag much easier to remove without kicking up sand if it wasnt even on the sand at the end.

..well I just checked the status of my order..it still says NEW not shipped. I thought if you put a date in the box, that is the date you want your stuff to arrive. I ordered on Tuesday and marked that box to be delivered on Friday the 17th...so I may not get my sand until next week.
I am taking a break from housework for the moment. I only have a little vacuuming left to do and set up the Shabbat table. I'm so disappointed about the refugium...I was so looking forward to all systems go.
Corey has my gizmo setup to break the syphon so fast it makes my head spin, I'm talking seconds...very little water comes back into the sump. Oh well back to the grind stone...LOL

Still a good bit of water!!! Think the garbage bag would work perfect. Don't want the sand working it's way through a new pump.

Well at least you have 75% of it running the fuge will be simple to start. I should have sent you some cheato algae with the fuge mine needs to be trimmed soon, wasn't thinking.

Everything is still thumbs up, that's good news. Bummer about the delivery stuff. It's been a long hard road to get this far, I don't see why we should expect the very last delivery to be on time

Flower if worse comes to worse and you don't like the noise from the drain then I think that extra piece of drain that I threw in the box was a tad bit longer. It might be a real pain in the bottom to switch out though. I actually don't mind hearing a little bit of water running, I think it's kind of relaxing and it lets you know things are still running. It's the sound of dead silence that ya gotta watch out for.

Longer...
. I cut the hose because it pushed the gizmo up and wouldn't allow it to rest on the tank rim at all, it goes pretty deep into the bubble trap still
I don't mind the sound, I just thought a sucking sound was funny. I haven't slept yet and I am a bit pounchy. I'm also sore all over...between getting up and down from the floor all day today and the hose fight yesterday ..I'm really beat.
I ordered dinner out, I had no energy for cooking, Sabbath has fnally arrived and I don't have to go to work, I got the house clean and ready, and the sump all set and running right....life is good. I should go to the Synagogue but I'm too tired. I had a girly beer and I'm going to just chill for the evening.
I tried to sleep but it just isn't happening, I just lay there and ache...it's a good tired ache but I can't sleep. LOL...I can't wipe the happy grin from my face either...I love the sump and couldn't wait to get it going. I got in the door from work this morning and started right on it.
