So what did I miss today? Did you guys get the water thing figured out?

Yes the water is all figured out. My ATO went AWOL and desided o just keep on running until I had more than should be in the sump.
Gemmy...EXACTLY! What really thew me is that they took the money from my account before it shipped, they never do that...I was spoiled and assumed it meant it was on it's way. After it didn't arrive I checked my account and it still said NEW and had not shipped at all.
They didn't tell me..I had to contact them to find out what was going on.
Ah well I'm off to work...another night and another dollar for me and two for the government. Have a good night all.

Night, Flower.
I don't remember reading what you are using as an ATO reserviour now. Just a little FYI...as long as you never put more than 8 gallons of water into your reservior then your sump should have enough room to handle the extra water in the unlikely event that your ATO does happen to pump every drop into the system. It's not good for the system obviously because of the drop in salinity but at least you know your floor will be safe.

Good morning all!
Well I was thinking about my ATO sensor this morning wrestling in my mind what could have happened. I thought instead of just up and replacing it I can rinse it off real good….then a light bulb came on.
Stupid me attached the clip of the sensor on the very handy baffle..you know where there is a constant water fall from one chamber to the other…It was just the right height. It also has water pushing down on it all the time, so when the sensor tripped it never floated to the top because the little waterfall kept the sensor down.
There is nothing wrong with my JBS ATO, there is only something wrong with me. Shawn offered to make a place to clip it and I said I had it all figured out…so now I need some ideas on how to get this attached to the sump with those support edges all around the top. Maybe I can figure a way to hang it.

Real quick, I'm headed off to work but do a search for magnetic probe holders. I'm pretty sure they will hold the ATO switches. Or at least some of them will.

I searched and I Googled and found nothing suitable yet..magnetic prob was a bust.
I want to make a sump/refugium out of a 30g tank I have, it stacks unde another 30g tank that I want to use for seahorses. Can you do me a favor...I need a pump and overflow for the 30g You know how you found the pump and CPR overflow for the 90g...and showed me a picture which showed me exactly what to get
...would you do that again? Also can a Fantastic Corey Gizmo be made for this one too? I can do the hoses..on a smaller scale copying the ones for the 90g. I don't need that much power I don't think for the smaller CPR overflow.
I THINK this s a small one:

CPR Aquatics CS50 Siphon Overflow:

  • Max. Flow Rate: 300 GPH

  • Outflow Size: 3/4"
    Bulkhead Width: 6-1/2"
Thanks for your help.

No prob...I'll be on vacation starting tonight so I'll do some digging around for a good pump. You'll deffinately want the smallest overflow you can find which the CS50 would most likely be the best bet. Much rather see if your boss would be willing to drill it for you though. It's really not any harder to do than the acrylic. Just needs the right type of bit.
In the mean time do you think you could show me a shot of your ATO sensor/switch so that I can see what type it is. I could have sworn I've seen some of those magnetic probe holders that also hold most of those standard type switches but I need to know which one you have to be sure.

lol that would be sweet. Then I could find another way to finance my addiction.
I love my Fantastic Corey gizmo!...I think it is marketable..

EDIT:
Alright..2 pictures the first one shows the sensor and the second not only shows the sensor but the mew skimmer doing it's awesome job!

Good catch on the float valve Flower!!!!!!
I was going to add the float valve mounts, but after you told me not to, I figured I better listen for a change, and leave well enough alone. I haven't seen any magnetic probe holders, but I'm pretty sure something could be rigged up though.
Flower very nice looking skimmate......Looks a little wet, but very good looking foam head starting. How many days worth of skimmate is that? Try tweaking it back a hair. Meaning lowering the water level just a tad....Want to try to dry and darken the skimmate.....Again very good looking!!!!!

Yes it was a little on the wet skim side but I cleaned the cup and replaced it...This morning I had half of a cup and very light brown so I turned it down..that was one day by the way. When it decided to skim it went to work. here is what it is doing now...I emptied it and turned it down this morning at 7:00 it is 9:00 now an I just took the pic. (my time) Oh and for the record..Turning the knob TOWARDS me is down..to the left not the right...LOL ...I have to remember that so I say "L is for Lower so I go L

Not bad flower. Can we get full tank shots? I want to see these tanks you got an awesome sump for.
This was before the crash...my heater broke and killed almost all my corals, the CUC and anything living in the sand. That created a nitrate nightmare and I ws doing daily water changes. So the sump story began...

The sump has been up and running since last Friday...this is my tank today..Nitrates were at 5.0 last test down from 10

Yeah takes the skimmers to break in a bit, but when they do they do get to working.....I bet the new skimmer has skimmed more than your old one during it's service hasn't it???? Do you fed heavy or often? How does the skimmer react when you feed, dose, or put your hand in the tank or sump? How is the tank responding to the new sump and skimmer?
Did you ever get the sand issue resolved or figure what your going to use in the fuge? Honestly a bag of the Agralive sand would work, and a little LS could be used to top it off for seeding. Yes We need full tank shots!!!!!
See how the skimmer skims today, and when you empty tomorrow, try taking it back a tad. Foam still a little wet, but it's doing it's job. How is your PH reading as well on the tank?

Well I haven’t done any tests yet...maybe this evening. I added a drain tube of about a foot to make it easier to empty the cup when I am not going to clean it, just empty it. LOL..You are correct about my old skimmer...after running it constantly for a month I didn’t get that much.
I love the sump system, I can't thank you enough! I am still waiting on SWF.com for my sand. I have some small rock chunks I had in the intank refugium I set down in the 90g sand to try and seed it. I will take those rocks and put them in the new fuge when I have the sand. On the rock that looks like dead coral, white almost like a finger...it came with the rubble rock for the bubble trap you sent, but it wouldn’t fit in the hole you made to hold the hose...so it too will go in the new fuge.
The skimmer goes nuts when I feed the corals, I don’t think the fish let anything escape into the overflow to do anything to the skimmer. I will have to shut down the skimmer for the day I feed the corals. All I have is some GSP, Kenya tree and mushrooms so once a week I give them a capful of (different types) of coral food...The small patch of zoa and my sea fan are not doing well, the fan has dead spots and the zoa patch is shrinking. It just seems that once they get on a downward spiral it keeps going no matter what I try.
Has UPS come through yet? Oh and happy Xmas... today and tomorrow are your Holidays I believe.
