Flower's Sump/Fuge Build

Actually 1Snapple I've tossed a few ideas around in my head, but won't let anything out yet.....Probably will be something on the lines as your proposing doing. They will be acrylic tanks, that will go in my fish room if I ever get the floor clear coated. Corey had talked to me along time ago about doing, it and I figured I'd do it. I actually have the lumber to frame the table/work area and the counter top, just need to do some serious thinking about the QT tank, and frag tank/tanks....

how about making a tank where all the stands in it are acrylic and there is no need for rock? This way I wont have to worry about things eating my livestock and I could always see where everyone is at, LOL!

OK....So you've peaked my interest early this Christmas morning....I'm suppose to be polishing the hardwood floors, since everyone is asleep, but why not PM me and give me a little more insight on this sugar plum vision your envisioning!!!!!!!

UPDATE:
After running my sump with no water changes and still no refugium yet here are my numbers.
PH: 8.0
KH: 6/ 107.4 (low)
Cal: 360 (low)
Nitrates: 20 — I hope the refugium will fix this.
Phosphates: 0
SG: 1.024/1.025
I believe the KH is low because of the ATO dumping in so much fresh water..so I buffered with some Alkalinity reef builder. I usually add a ¼ tsp to my top off.
I also added some Kents liquid calcium, I can only add a small amount at a time so I have to dose the cal again in a few days after testing, until I get that where I want it.

Flower have you ever checked your Mag level? Have you had an issue with your Alk and Ca up and down all the time? PH might appear seem low, but question is how are the corals looking? That number of 8.3 is the ideal number. That number can be influenced by many things were unaware of . What time of day are you checking your PH? Are you checking before the lights come on? After the lights are on? And how long have they been on?
I know where still waiting on the fuge to be brought online, but another thing to think and consider with the fuge is to run macros, but run the lights on the reverse cycle as the tank lights. This could possibly help with the PH, and possibly raise the level and avoid major swings.

Like acrylic said, run macro in the fuge, and have the fuge lights opposite of the main lights. It helps stabilize your PH.
Ph is lowest right before you turn on your lights and highest right after you turn off your lights.

Lets see...lights are on in the middle of the day when I test. Calcium seems always to be low. Alk is usually really good because I use a little reef booster in my top off water. Which I was told would help my PH.
I had red gracisomething macros in the little intank refugium and it was a bust..it melted to snot and polluted everything. So I had Chaeto left...which just got into the power heads because it went through the holes in my basket. Then I read that macros fight and that was why my red stuff melted.
At any rate I don't much care for macro algae to date. Magnisium level and PH level is exactly what my new mixed saltwater is..remember I have been doing lots of water changes. Now I have the sump up and running for 1 week. I don't have the refugium on line and the skimmer is not yet broke in.
My GSP, Kenya trees, mushrooms, bubble coral and green centered polyps are all very healthy and happy. My sea fan, zoa and colt are are slowly dying. So it's half and half on how the coarl looks, all my fish and shrimp are happy campers.

Well that will make both of us! I really want my refugium up, I think that will help the most. The skimmer is now doing pretty good, the foam is good and thick and the skim is smelly and dark brown. I love the sound of the new sump, it's like I have a little creek running nearby.

Cool!!! We might get everything online before New Years!!!!!

New years is Friday...I should have the sand by Wednesday or Thursday latest. I am making up new saltwater as I type.
As soon as that sand arrives it is going into the fuge the hose line is sitting there waiting for me to turn the valve and let the water flow. I will shut down everything while I add the sand and water just to the bulkheads (I don’t want sand in the new pump) once all is settled and I gently remove the bag I will use to not disturb the sand as I add the water...I will turn the system back on and then slowly turn the valve to let water flow slow into the fuge.
This is the plan, if you think I should do something different SPEAK UP so I can be sure of what I am doing.
