RENO, I have seen threads locked for much, much less percieved "contempt" by the mods! But I do agree it is nice to have an open forum discussion by long time members with justifed fair concerns.

the problem with some of the other threads that came up wasnt a discussion it was a I dont think this is fair and then it always turned into a mod bashing of sorts so far this thread hasnt taken that direction.

And for that, we thank you. Those of us that purchased the item(s) thank you for sharing such a great deal and hopefully this wont be the last time someone can share such a bargain with everyone else. Makes me wonder if any of the mods took advantage of the bargain as well. And if so, they probably would not have known about it if they hadnt read the thread.

no one is attacking each other personally. its just more of an issue of what the website itself is doing, not the people who are here to manage it and do what theyre told to do. i understand that people have to follow the rules and do what theyre told, but to me it just doesnt make sense what goes on, that's all.

I did not take advantage of it because I got mine with my RO/DI unit for free
. it showed up on forums all over about the same time though.

I *hope* the discussion has about reached it's natural conclusion.
to summarize:
Why? Because SWF owns the forum and provides it as a free service to it's customers. If you are not a customer consider yourself lucky that they allow this forum to be used publically.
But why...? Because Admin has been asked and we (Mods) have been told to continue on the current course.
But why.....? Because, while SWF does care about the hobby, they also are a business and need to make money.
But why.......? Because each of us Mods have to make several judgment calls a day. Also, just because you went to a site and didn't see an inappropriate add, doesn't mean you saw all of the adds on that particular site.
Ultimately, as Mods we each feel a responsibility to help SWF provide the best forum they can. We do this out of love for this community (as well as love for SWF).

My RO/DI came with a couple of different TDS meters

we all know that, but it doesnt mean it has to make sense or whatever. just like when i went to petland and asked why their tanks were empty and the head biology guy whatever he is said, "were starting over.. recycling." "uhh but theres fish still in there and some are dead??" "yeah, it happens when you go through the cycle" and just stopped going there. that may have been their whole procedure of doing things but it doesnt mean i have to agree with something like that
i took advantage of it because it was free!!! lol. i have an inline tds meter too but i figured i could always use a handheld one if something ever happens to my inline
and youre welcome jonthefishguy!

But mike, being the best forum they can would be to allow educational links REGARDLESS of whether it is a competitor or not, so that ALL members not just from the OTHER sites can benefit from the useful ideas and information. To limit the information people can share just because they are possible comptetors says alot about whether or not they want to be one of the best forums out there on this hobby.

Jon, (I'm John too btw
)Let's take your business as an example. You pay for advertisement, office expenses, travel costs, etc. Now, you cannot possibly tell me that when you go out to do a bid you would welcome a competitor (who isn't paying any advertising fees) to ride along with you (avoiding any travel fees), for them to ask questions and give bad advice to the potential client (which links to wherever can lead too on this forum) then have them possbily underbid you. How often would you really let that occur?

This is a dumb argument, It does annoy me some times not being able to link to some good stuff, and I find SWF website difficult to shop off of and other are better. But come on this is a FREE site, I don't have to buy anything to be a member, I don't pay a fee, nothing. It is free, all I have to do is not use this to discuss other competitors websites. That is it. What is sooo hard about that. We all know and go to different sites, if we need to discuss such matters. Just if we are on SWF we don't talk about their competition.
This reminds me of the
that would call me at radioshack and ask the phone number of our competitor next door.

how much do you think it costs to run a board? im sure at least 10 members place orders a year and that easily pays for the whole site.

Yeah, I had to pay the $0.72, too, probably because they ship from CA. Oh, well, still a great deal!

How can their be tax, on an item that nets 0? It is like if you buy a can of dip in texas you pay 4.99 2 bucks of that is tax, then you have to pay sales tax. on the full 5 dollars. THEY TAX THE TAX!

Anyone check the status of their order? I received an email last night when I ordered, and it has a link to check the status. I just clicked it, and the web site came back 'Not Found'. I went directly to the sales site, logged into my account, and it states there are no recent orders. I also went to the screen where you can enter your Order Number, last name, and billing phone number - No Order Found. Sounds like they may have caught on to the 'free' TDS Meter and cancelled all the orders. Someone else try what I did and get back as to whther you still have an order in place.
UPDATE - I found a second email from them, and it had a different order number from the one in the direct link to the order status. Used that Order Number and it found my order. Status is - Sent To Warehouse.
Bet that 'warehouse' will be empty of TDS Meters pretty soon.

You know the government will find a way to tax anything they can. I know a lot of sellers on the big E

[hr]
site used to add the tax after the shipping was added which is a big no-no, and I called each and every one of them on it and they always had to adjust the total for me. You can imagine how many people don't even look at that. It all adds up so the consumer has to be careful and aware. Anyway, I don't mind paying the $0.72 tax to get this meter. By the way, I went back to the site I ordered it from and it now is saying they are out-of-stock. I'm glad I looked at this thread when I did. Thanks for the heads up Nietzsche!
