Yeah I knew that, I ment I hope it wasnt a sundial snail.

I reduced my lighting schedual to try to combat some of the algae growth.

Actinics on at 12:30
daylight on at 1:30
daylight off at 7:30
actinics off at 8:30

Is that too little light?

So I found a picture of the brownish algae, I think is diatom. But I thought diatom is only common in new saltwater tanks? If it is it s there a possibility that it can still kill corals? Since everytime a coral dies, I see this brown algae/bacteria on that rock.

This is what mine looks like pretty much (not my picure though)

It also wipps off pretty easily and its somewhat slimmy.

i would say dinoflagellates, not diatoms. diatoms would be feeding off silica. dino can release a toxin that usually affects snails first

Yup Ive seen a reduction in numbers of my CUC.. All the ceriths seem to be dead and the nassarius. The mexican turbos and astra snails are all fine though. Some ceriths might have gotten killed by blue legged hermits though since Ive seen 2 of them in cerith shells.

So how do I get rid of this stuff?

So I've been reading and I found out that I need to raise my nitrates to 2ppm to kill the dino. The ame thing happened to some other person on the internet. All the corals died ect. and the only way this person got rid of it was raising nitrates to 2ppm for over 2 months, and some sea hares. Now how do I raise nitrates? No waterchanges?
