Its a canister theres just 2 foam pads one more porous then the other and then the activated carbon+resin or w.e else is in the pouch.
if anything I was going to buy the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals BIO CHEM-ZORB 10 OZ. for the carbon pouch. What do you think?

I don't use carbon in my big tanks....
BUT I do use it in my 29g....now anyway...I but the marineland carbon.
what type of canister is it...I'm just curious if you can use other things for the pads
FOR INSTANCE...in my sump I bought a $5 bag of polyfiber..been using it for months now.

OK...I'm looking it up...
I have none of the stuff in my canisters that came with it...I have ceramic rings in one section...hmmm/.....I think that's it...LOL

OK here's my .02
If you want to run carbon....price a filter bag, and a container of carbon and fill your own bags.
Instead of all their foam pads, but some of this poly fiber stuff, and put it in one of the trays
Put some of those ceramic ring things in one of the trays
I have no foam pads in my canisters...BUT I DO NOT KNOW if you have to have some on a smaller tank

I dont have trays. Its just one big box that you put all your filter media in and the water passes through it. I dont think Id have enough room for a carbon bag, rings, and the filter floss I'm guessing you ment.

There isnt a lot of room to seperate with egg crates. I can replace the foam with filter floss(but what exactly does that do?).
And yes there will be corals once I get my 2 black and white clowns and get rid of the green cromis.

The floss will just collect particles as the water goes through it
basically same as the foam....only maybe not collect as small particles as the foam pads will....but it's cheap, and you can change it often

I'll look into it. Right now all I do is wash the foam not even replace it.
When I got home from wotk I saw one of my holloween hermits laying i nthe sand bed and I got scared but when I went to get it to remove it it was just the exo. So my hermits are growing fast! I take this as a good thing.
I also think I have way to many phosphates in my water because every morning when I wake up my tank is covered in algae. I think I have to buy a kit and start removing some of the phosphates or my tan is going to be overcome with algae.

Found another molt! lol Its tucked away in a hole in one of the piece of LR I cant get to it. Will it cause ammonia? Or is it too little to cause a spike?
Whats a good phosphate remover? If I do find a high phosphate cout in my water?

Anything else youd recomend for phosphates?
Phosphogaurd? or w.e its called.
Also do you think the LFS will have phosphate test kits that they can test my water for me rather than me buying the kit now? I rather wait and buy the whole API reef kit which I believe it comes with phosphate tests.

I also just noticed that Oscar has a hole in his side. It kind of looks like your seahorses wound but cleanner. Do you think it might have been dead scales that Jaqcue got to? Or maybe a bump into the rocks or a nip from the hermits while he was asleep? Oscar seems to be swiming fine and he was eating like crazy this morning when I fed him.

A hole in his side does not sound good....You really have to get a pic of it
