nice!!! I cant stop watchin my little guy , good job at gettin the crab out! Have you feed her yet? I named mine Remmy ( like a remington rifle). I never thought I would enjoy watching one of these guys so much. They are very curious and really respond to you when you go up to the tank. Very aware of everything....wow..I just heard a "click" scared me
He is tryin to break a piece of LR. He has been digin all the sand out of his PVC..SOO funny. Show us pic's if Lola rearranges anything

she actually rolled a rather large rock from the back end of the PVC to the front about 1 inch or so from the opening.
i wonder if she is going use it to close off the opening at night
BTW I want to mention if you don't all ready know, most of the experts recommend that you soak the food in some liquid vitamins. I am going to use zoecon

Just got offered a second Odontodactylus havanensis mantis. If anybody is interested in starting a mantis tank, and would like to start out with one of these, shoot me a PM please. I don't really want to try and keep two in the same tank, and I don't really want to set up another tank for a mantis.

well have been reading most of the day.everything i can find on google.seems to me these things can almost live in toilet water

scopus i would love the mantis you have but my tank wont be up untill sunday.i do have everything for it ialready .but we are moving starting friday and i will be setting it up sunday.although it is different than a peacock right.i hadnt looked the one you have up.doing some reading wow there are alot of different kinds of these things.
i saw a vid of one smashing a pretty big crab to death then dragging it to his cave.felt bad about the crab going through that.snails not so much.
seems i will be feeding vitamin soaked shrimp and krill daily with a snail or two once a week to help keep his hammer in tact during molting.
i read if the mantis doesnt get its hammer exercise it might lose its hammer while molting.

Well is seemed like Lola likes her privacy (amazing creatures). She moved this rock from the other side of her burrow all the way to the front and used it to secure the entrance way during the night.

For those of you considering a mantis tank some info.
Yesterday I decided to attempt to feed Lola a piece of shrimp. I put it on the

end of my sea squirt. She immediately came forward and started to eat the shrimp. I then dislodged the shrimp (bad idea) she then took it into her burrow to feed on it at her leisure. (I assume). I started thinking it was a large piece of shrimp and although her tank was well seeded with bio filtration bacteria I was not sure the large piece would not tax the filtration causing a spike. I dosed with Prime as a prophylactic measure. Checked for nitrites two times during the night and all is well Just something to think about hobbyists
I put it on the

Henry before you ask yes it did hurt

My little remmy , is eatin like a pig! I just gave him a prawn this morn. He seems to carry it around for awhile. I dont think he is "hiding" his food. I have had these little tanks packed with corals and did allot of target feeding and stuff , never had a prob. I dont think out tanks will suffer from 1 mantis eating
But now that you have said that I will have to test my water!
thanks allot

Amazing Lola was looking out of her burrow and I decided to take a good look using a large magnifying glass. When I put the glass up to my face (which would now seem very large she immediacy came forward and raised up in a defensive posture appearing larger much like a cobra would I assume. Wow the fun continues. i will try to have a pic taken of this posturing
as far as feeding I feel that as predators they may in fact not feed every day. I have an e-mail out to Dr Caldwell asking about a feeding routine I will post his thoughts as soon as i get them
Pre posturing

looks very nice, although i don't like the freshwater display rock in there. i had two in my 20l when i first started, and they got completely covered in algae, no matter how often i cleaned them.
