This is a copy of an e-mail from Dr Caldwell
No iodine.
We feed our animals three or four times a week, but daily is OK.

Dear Dr Caldwell
You were gracious enough to answer one of my questions regarding an Odontodactylus scyllarus. I have recently acquired a 2 ½ inch female. Fascinating creators, they are now at the head of my list for species specific tanks. If I may I would like to ask you two more questions.
Should I supplement with iodine and if so how much?
How often should I feed?

my n. wrennarae leaves my astreas alone, yet devours periwinkles... as for feeding, i honestly only feed a few times a week, a piece of krill. i have an over abundance of amphipods and, maybe, asterina stars that seem to keep him/her happy when i don't plop about 30 periwinkles in.

Last night as I was feeding Lola a piece of shrimp presented to her on a sea squirt

[hr]
. She darted out of her burrow and laterally attacked the shrimp. Now wanting to have her injure herself on the

[hr]
I attempted to dislodge the shrimp. She may have taken this for an aggressive move by the shrimp and did something I had read about. She flipped over on your back, which is contrary to other animals as this is a sign of submission. But from my research I have read that mantis shrimp adapt this defensive posture to protect themselves. Very interesting sight.
This is a pic of the seafood mix I use for my own consumption as well blending it for my DT. It is inexpensive less the $4. A bag

All natural and contains wild caught cuttlefish, squid, mussel meat, octopus and shrimp.
It will be what I will use to feed Lola
Here you can see Lola has completely uncovered the far end of the burrow next door
i will get some non reflective material for the sides so she does not think its another mantis trying to get into her burrow

Make sure the stuff in that is all raw, Joe. Sometimes parts of it is cooked. It should say in the ingredients what's cooked and what isn't.

again I am totally jealous of you! If my lawyer would get off his ass and settle this case , I will be living in cape coral FL. soon! until then I will live thru your pic's and stories of easy access to the beach. Cool idea about stuffing the shell , I think I will steal that myself. Killer should be in my tank within 2 weeks

Not to hi-Jack, But where in Cape Coral. Thats where I am.
Joe, I need to get to the beach, but its just tooooooo coldddddd.

technically, they do not see the reflection. it's just as if you were looking through the glass from the opposite side.
if you're concerned about exterior reflections, that's a different story

When it's dark outside and the lights are on in my house I see a reflection in the window.

. My mistake was that I was looking through the front of the tank and an adjacent side. Doing so I was seeing the reflection of the ******** of the tank. I am assuming it has to do with a prism effect.
This pic while I am sure must be boring to some is amazing to me. These rocks were at different locations in the tank. Lola moved them to the front of her borrow

Trial and error. I placed a piece of octopus in this shell with a little bit hanging out. Trying to entice Lola to break the shell. Instead she just reached in and took the octopus out. I obviously need more concealment
