Have you thought of doing stockmans for the drains, then expansion foam/pond foam the back? Hiding all the plumbing that way. I dont know how the foam will stick to the epoxy, but all of it I have ever used wants to stick to everytrhing, my fingers, my clothes, my hair.....

I saw a thread on another big site where the guy used eggcrate, some plastic ties ,expanding foam,LR,epoxy ,and some crushed coral/sand.He made a awsome backdrop that hid overflow and most of the back wall.
I might even give it a shot.

i actually have used the foam on my 10gallon tank...and planned on using it in this tank to hide the plumbing/spray bar in the back...but i havent decided yet if i want to follow through or not--i used eggcrate in the 10gallon with no problems, i've heard without it it'll become a severe problem...we'll see as time goes along.

You should look into light movers for the tank as well....I'm contemplating circular light mover for the new setup.

i LOVE the external overflow box on the back of a tank.. It proves great for acclimating fish, corals etc.. and you can evan make it large enough to have a litle propogation going on with its own bulb. Ive seen MANY setups work awesome with this done..

ok....where can i find plans for calfo's overflow? does he have a direct website with plans? i hate -- for not being able to search!!!!

as for the tank it is approx 485gallons....my plans are a mixed reef mostly....i'll have some fish like my clowns, bangaiis, chromis, purple firefish...not sure what else i want....not a big fish person but i would like some that will swim the length of the tank, a tang or something.

Cool! I personaly would put a blue hippo tang, a purple tang, and maybe a blonde naso. Those would add some nice colors, but it woudn't look crowded.

a blue hippo may be a must, fiance has always wanted one...but my main thing is I will not be getting a ton of fish as i dont want it too look overcrowded like other tanks i've seen large...it ruins the tank for me....maybe i'll get another school of something besides chromis...
first have to make sure the tank works, lol

Well -- is were I found the plans for it, basically a box on the out side with a slot in the tank for the water to flow and a dursco style piping in the box, but -- has some good details on how to build, in the DIY section, agree it's a pain to search anything
