ok probably a really stupid question but here goes: why are gorgonians and anemones considered inverts instead of some type of coral?

Funny you should ask that. As for the Gorgonian im not sure, although it maybe due to the fact that they have an endoskeleton which other corals dont have. But I could be all wrong about that.

My LFS, well one of them is different than most fish stores you see. Alot of my knowledge comes from there as well as this site. They are more specialized in maintaining fish tanks then they are selling products. The have quite a unique staff, 2 biologists which I found to be extrodinary. Anyway, I asked them a while ago, "other than the fact that its mobile what differentiates a soft coral and an anenome?" The answer I got was "not alot" LMAO they really are very similar in alot of ways. A short time ago I was at the same place and one of the biologists told me that the (institute for studing marine organisms) I dont remember what the name of it was.. Anyway they were considering re-evaluating the characteristics of some soft corals and considering changing their names to anenomes. I thought it was funny to hear but cool too.
I dont have a definitive answer to your question all I can say is the anenome is mobile maybe thats the reason. But if anyone has any info it would be cool to find out.

well at least now i dont feel really stupid since you dont know either. I was also wondering about the anemone but forgot to ask, but that is funny about how similar they are. As far as them moving some corals move there is a thread that i just read that said that shrooms and some other ones move to. Let me see if i can find it ........

I was going to say that some corals move but I thought well they take a long time to move. My Xenias have moved, my large green mushroom has definatly moved. And not talking multiplied, actually moved their foot to a different spot on my tank.

My Gramma was the first fish I put in my tank. She is doing very well and since then I have added 5 fish total. Out of all of them she has been the least aggressive. They hide alot though, she likes the LR to seek refuge in. Only when the lights are on she is out and its not all the time prob 70% of the time.
