I was checking out the photos of your sump. Can anyone explain the use/benefit of have a light down there? I have my sump in a dark cabinet, with a compartment filled with bioballs. I'm wondering if I'm not maximizing my potential, but not using a light to grow beneficial bacteria??

Well not entirely tru meowzer. Rock and sand in a refugium do not need light in order to habor nutreint expoting stuff. Only the macro in you scenario really needs the light. Some day maybe Joe or I can start a threan on cryptic refugiums and their comparison to traditional one. As for the bioballs ATL again no lighting needed.
