hey there now, that looks freak'n sweet! good job on the rock dude, it almost brings a tear to my eye. Feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders? As far as rinsing your rock off with tap water, I think you will be okay since you barely did it to much rock. The worst results was you probably killed off the bacteria on that rock and anything else on the rock like algae and such. I think your main concern is to avoid getting the tap water into the tank. You said you rinsed it off with saltwater at the end of the day so i think you will be ok. I wouldnt be too worried about it.
As far as your tests go I would say your perfect. PH could be a little higher at least 8.2. Other than that the results are normal for a starting tank. Your getting ammonia readings from some die off from your live rock. Soon you will start to see your nitrites go up as well as your nitrates. Youre on the right track

Do you have salinity and current temp results too? Good job Ronnie!

salinty, not at the momment.. i still need to pickup a hydrometer.. and my temp was a bit low today since i moved it to the back chamber... it was reading 73 and i raied the heater up a bit.. made a difference since i threw it in chamber 3.

now i need to look a bit more into CHEATO.. or whatever it was you guys were telling me to do. Sorry im a major n00b a tthis but i just want whats best for my tank.. after all.. i WILL be investing some money into this.
Also, i noticed that my cover to my top where the lights are were all fogged up. Water looks like its leaking inside the lights.. obviously the lights weren't wet but they looked all steamed up..
Im to tired to research to much about this CHEATO stuff but hopefully tomorrow at work i will get a heads up on it.
If any1 else has any useful links as to where i should buy my "STARTER" kit from it would be appreciated.. if not im sure i can figure it out off the internet.

I'm still learning a lot as well. It all comes in time. I just recently added my chaeto fuge, it will be awhile before I can tell if its working or not. All I know is I can see the little bugs swimming back there in it.
As far as your lights fogging up, the same thing happened to me. This happened to me when my lights were off. I started running my lights for the first time this week and most of it went away.
I'll PM you in a minute with a good and cheap refractometer. They are more expensive than a hydrometer but are much more reliable. They are definitely a good investment. Also, what do you mean by "starter kit"?

Some people use a plastic cup. I'm using eggcrate to create a rack and I use fiberglass screen to cover the holes so water can flow in but chaeto cant get out. I never took any pictures of it before I put it in, but its similar to this

The eggcrate can be found as a large sheet in the lighting section of Home Depot. I'm using the Marina LED light, but there's also another light you can get. Miami Reefer just set up his chaeto rack so go peek in his thread for some more ideas.

thanks guys!
Any1 have a website with a FAQ for nano tanks with some good information.. reason i ask is because sometimes people say words/or things that i have no idea about.. ill have someone knowledge about it but i want to know whats going on because i really like this hobby. I plan on heavily stocking up my tank and would like to be as knowledgeable as possible.

Thanks WHISK for the awesome links... howeverrrrrr..
my LFS said he is going to bring me a nice chunk of CHAETO tomorrow for me so i can throw in my tank.. now my question is.. where can i buy the light LOCAL .. (like an OSH? or something)..
1) do i just ask for a 10wat submersible light?..
2) any cleaning procedures i should do before putting it in my tank?
3) do i need to just throw it in threre with a little cup thats cracked so water can flow threw it? or do i need to follow any steps in "acclimating" that stuff.. LOL.. sorry for the n00b questions.
4) Doesn't matter which chamber i put it in correct?.. as long as its tucked away in the back ?.. THANKS guys.

Oh and 1 last VERY n00b question... what is a "FUGE" .. i see that being used on here quite a bit and am lost.. lol

also off nanon00bs thread about the chaeto..
he tells us to take everything out of chamber 1-2 .. (sponge/ceramic rings/bioballs/carbon)
he does not mentio anything about putting the bioballs back in and the carbon ..
are these being replaced with the CHEMIPURE and Purigen ?... or is alllll of this going back into the back area (im assuming this is the "FUGE") you guys have been referring to.. ?"refugium(sp?)" sorry for such stupid questions again...

fuge=refugium.
yeah chemipure and/or purigen would go in one of the chambers... make sure you run a lit fuge as a dark fuge doesn't do a whole lot lol.
bioballs/ceramic rings are a big pain to work with because they trap detritus really easily as do sponges. the stock carbon unit is also a piece of crap.
best of luck and no you are not asking stupid questions, but the search feature can help alot. I know its difficult because you're probably anxious and without experience in this sort of thing, you tend to panic easily which is understandable. You'll get it though and in no time, you'll have a great tank that you can stare at for hours.
edit.. also the chaeto does not need acclimating, a 10 watt submersible light could work, but you always run the risk of it breaking and sending electricity into the water. alot of people mount a light on the back side of the tank and just scrape away the plastic that covers the back glass on chamber 2.

and by "FUGE" its the back area of the tank correct? the three chambers or whatever it may be in the back.
also i will be running a "LIT" fuge which is why i was trying to figure out which light to get from a local store.
So your saying take the bio balls and ceramic rings out correct? Your telling me the sponge is a piece of crap, what do you recommend instead of it?... i didn't use the "STOCK" one. i had it replaced with a new one but im sure its just as much "crap" as the stock one was. My sponge is HUGE, it takes up ALL o chamber 1 pretty much... and in my Chamber 2 i do not have any GLASS to be scraping off.. again im asking such n00b questions but i did not really understand you.. sorry man...
i will try to use the search feature much more.

1) do i just ask for a 10wat submersible light?.. yep, look for a submersible light, usually they are used in water fountains, your LFS may also even sell them.
2) any cleaning procedures i should do before putting it in my tank? just rinse it quickly, thats it
3) do i need to just throw it in threre with a little cup thats cracked so water can flow threw it? or do i need to follow any steps in "acclimating" that stuff.. LOL.. sorry for the n00b questions. throw it in, just like rotary said
4) Doesn't matter which chamber i put it in correct?.. as long as its tucked away in the back ?.. THANKS guys. any chamber is good as long as there is a light and decent water flow

on the left is my fuge, i have a Marina LED light and chaeto secured within my eggcrate mod. On the left is another eggcrate with my filter floss and under that is my chemipure.
also i will be running a "LIT" fuge which is why i was trying to figure out which light to get from a local store.

It's ok about the n00b questions, you just want to get it right and it can be confusing. So to answer your question, yes, permanmently take out the bio balls and ceramic rings. You will not need these. Instead, the LR you already have in your tank will do their job. The bioball and rings are meant to house bacteria but since you are using LR, you will not need them. If you didnt have LR, you would need to use the bioballs and rings.
You also dont need the sponge because it will collect nitrates. Instead you can use filter floss, which too over time will collect nitrates but you just replace it like once a week or sooner.
i will try to use the search feature much more.
Hope that helps!

btw: does that totally throw off my cycle and make me recycle the entire tank again from scratch?.. or it makes zero difference? (now that im changing out all the back stuff like bio balls etc)
I also heard if use filter floss instead of a sponge u have to change that out weekly?.. BLEHHH not down for thatt.. haha

It wont throw it off that much because your LR is helping too. You should be fine. I believe beneficial bacteria grows faster on LR than bioballs anyways.
Yeah, changing out the filter floss is a small pain, but it takes less than 30 seconds to replace it. With a sponge, you would have to rinse it just as often and even then it wouldnt get rid of all the crap that it has collected. You also would have to rinse it with RO or saltwater, not tap, and thats even more annoying. Ultimately, once your tank is established and you have the proper CUC and other things that eat detritus, it's possible you could be rid of the floss for good. At the rate my floss is collecting stuff, i wont be giving up on it anytime soon.

I mean the back wall of the tank... is it not possible to scrape the paint off the glass so that you can see into chamber 2 from the backside of the tank? I know this is possible on biocubes.
