Attendance down? I'm not surprised. For one, who wants to watch Jimmie Johnson win, or at least finish in the Top 5, every week (yea, he didn't do too well at Indy)? He's become the new Jeff Gordon. Everyone got sick of him winning all the time a few years back. Then there's the cost of attending a race. Unless you live near a track, you have to drop at least $500 in driving, food, and hotel costs for a weekend of racing. If you fly to a venue, that's another $300 - $400 per person. Then the Two-Day ticket is what, $200 - $400, depending on where you sit? With the economy sucking as much as it does these days, how can a family of four afford dropping $1000 - $2500 just to watch cars go around a track for a few hours?
I don't think it is just that, it costs a lot. But the problem is the COT imo... Their races are getting too cookie cutter. Part of the charm of NASCAR has always been the fact that they aren't corporate, they still used leaded gas, carborators. They stood political correctness on it's head. Now there is talk, quite serious talk of them going to E85 fuel.
