First, how long is your tank?
But anyways, here are other tangs that could work from what I know on your tank. What do you think?
Some are repeats, but...
Acanthurus nigrofuscus
Ctenochaetus tominiensis
Acanthurus chronixis
Ctenochaetus binotatus
Ctenochaetus truncatus
Ctenochaetus cf. striatus
Honestly, you should just look around and then ask "what do you think" because a *lot* could work. It won't hurt...

5 foot tank:)
I really like the half black mimic tang, but isn't that rare?
Not really a fan of the tomini/bristle tooth Tangs of the like.
Know of a single butterfly that could work? I'll look around and see if I see any random fish I like. And I'll post pics soon too:)

Leopard wrasse
Powder blue and brown tang
Potter's wrasse
Christmas wrasse
Copper band BF
Blue spot puffer
Raccoon BF
Pyramid BF
half black mimic tang
Marine betta
Harlequin tusk
Clown trigger
Undulate trigger
Some type of anthias?
Sweetlips

I think that a powder brown tang and the marine beta would make gorgeous additions to your tank!
PS, Hi! Ive been reading this thread, and there is LOTS of useful information all over it! I have been a SW addict for 6 years now and what i love about this hobby is that there is always something new to learn. As a saltwater aquarist, You must learn that everything that you do is a trial and error. Just because one method worked for someone else doesnt nessacarily mean it will work for you and vise versa. Sometimes its ok to experiment and see what works for you. I think you are doing a fabulous job, and your tank looks amazing. You should be proud of yourself. Because you are learning a lesson thats very hard to go by sometimes, that all of us saltwater junkies HATE.. and that is patience. Patience is key. Always remember that! And good luck!

Well, you have quite good taste!
Leopard wrasse
No, no, no.... they have diets similar to mandarinfish....
Powder blue and brown tang
Either of the one could work... but not both
Potter's wrasse
Same as the leopard wrasse: no, too hard of a diet to maintain
Christmas wrasse
It will eat fireworms and pyramidellid snails, protecting corals and clams. In addition, it may eat feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms. Other than that, they are a great choice IMO even though I have never had one.
Copper band BF
MAYBE...
Blue spot puffer
It may be aggressive at times, nipping the fins of tank mates, leaving a circular hole as its mark. It will eat invertebrates found in a reef tank. So if you want or have inverts (I forget lol)... they'll go bye-bye. Not to mention that you'll be risking your other fish.
Raccoon BF
They'll eat stony corals.
Pyramid BF
I think this fish could do.

half black mimic tang
Wonderful for your tank.

Marine betta
This is one of my favorite fishes on your list look-wise. They'll eat smaller fish and shrimp.. and they need live feeder shrimp at first, but then, after they're accepting non-live foods, they're great.

Harlequin tusk
First off, they are quite expensive. They'll prey upon inverts and crustacians. Semi-aggressive. I think that they'll get along with your other fish though. Other than that I've heard that they have high success rated in the home aquarium..

Clown trigger
AGGRESSIVE, AGGRESSIVE, AGGRESSIVE

Undulate trigger
Also Aggressive.

Some type of anthias?
Possible the square-spotted anthias.

Sweetlips
I believe that you are talking about Dogfish Orientalis. If so, then absolutely not... they need AT LEAST 250 gallons, if not a lot more.

One thing that I really like about your list is that there are some unique fish.. not the cookie cutter fish that EVERYONE has...

Hi Katie, GREAT to see you on here!! :) more help the better!!
Ok so out of that whole list (narrowing out the ones traveler said wouldn't work) here are my top five!
1. ANY type of butterflyfish. I am so in love with these. Is there one that just wouldn't eat my corals and wouldn't die he first day I got it?
2. Harlequin tusk. Wow. Beautiful.
3. Marine betta. I'm very hesitant about this though, because of the live feeding. I had a zebra dwarf lion that had to be started on ghost shrimp and he'd be "fine" when he's off but I never could wean him. I tried everything.
4. Mimic half black tang.
5. Tie btw anthias and powder blue. If I got anthias wouldn't I have to get like 2-3?
I heard powder blues were very touchy and didn't have a good survival rate. Anyone experience this?
P.s. --traveler--where'd you get your info that copper bf eats stony corals? I actually heard they were one of the only ones that wer reef safe. Just wondering!
Thanks for the Compliment on the stock list--I really don't like the "yellow Tangs blue Tangs" etc that almost EVERYONE has. I like the more original stuff!!

As I said in my above post, a pyramid butterfly fish could do. I don't see why you couldn't get a harlequin tuskfish, as long as you don't mind lil' friends of your clean up crew disappearing once in a while.. lol... and also they are quite expensive. The cheapest I've seen them are babies on sale for a bit under $60... other than that, they are usually in the $100s. I must agree though, they are quite stunning. You definitely could do a mimic half black tang... I don't see any problems there. Where did you here that you have to get 2-3 anthias if you wanted one???? That's only certain species I believe. I wouldn't go for a powder blue. I never said that the copperbanded BF eats stony corals... where did you see that? I said that the raccoon BF will eat stony corals. Have you ever heard of or thought of a Golden Semilarvatus Butterflyfish? I think that they could work in your tank.

I will! Hey I want to frag my frogspawn. Can I just cut it with scissors or use a screw driver or what? Do I need to take it all out of the water?

haha i only said screwdriverf because i saw a video of this guy fragging frogspawn and he said to use a screwdriver. ha. but ill just try to break it with my hands. thanks for coming back, meowzer :) havent seen you in a while

Two bad things: 1. Lemonpeel died. I thought this was from lack of food because my tang wrasse coral beauty and clown were all PIGS and wiuld eat the food quickly. The lemon peel was kind of picky and would just swim about the tank kind of aimlessly. I tried to mget food to it but the other fish ate too quickly. Then one day I noticed the lemon peel at the bottom kind of on it's side, not a ble to swim. I tried to give it food; too late. It started to breathe fast and right before it died it had this part near his fin where he had no scales or coloration or whatever. Looked kind of rubbed off. So then I guessednit was either ich or a bacterial infection common to dwar angels. Confusing thing: coral beauty doing perfectly fine?
2. :(( I think my tang has ich. great. I knew things were going too smoothly...
Symptoms: I started noticing this like 3-4 days ago. He had been hiding behind a rock and acting a little funny. He'd hide and then come out and eat a piece of algae or swim around and just go back in. Now he is breathing fast and he has these tiny white spots on him which I'm pretty sure is ich. He's still eating algae and taking flake if I give it or just eating random things that cross him. Then RIGHT as I was typing this he started coming out and staying out and then he like rubbed the bottom of the tank. That FREAKED me out because I knew he basically was going to die... That was the first time I had seen him do that.

He also has like one brown spot on him and then there was a dark spot on his sail but it kind of went away. The guy I got him from had him like 1-2 yrs and said he was really healthy and lived through 3 ich outbreaks that killed other fish..I'm still worried though.
He's confusing me..still eating and swimming around mostly but then the little spots? They're actually more black then white I was noticing. I'm confused on this one.

AWWW... I am so sorry that the tank went downhill. I don't know much about fish disease and treatment, I would start a new thread in "Marine disease and treatment" Beth or the other members that know a lot more about that topic of SWF than me can help.
