ok. has anyone ordered the rubble live rock? my lfs charges $8 a pound and i feel like 12 punds in addiction to the 3 pounds i already have will be a lot. so im thinking maybe smaller pieces will be easier? but idk how small "rubble" is

nvm the average is about 2-4" imo to small..

Traveler is right. If it is shipped properly, it shouldn't have any problems. Problems start when you open the bag and expose the NH4 to air. It oxydizes it into NH3 which is the toxic form of ammonia. When you get the fish unpacked, it's better to float them to stabilize temp and then get them out of the bag ASAP. Cup method works, drip method is also ok. The main thing is to get them out of that bag water as soon as you can, regardless of how long they have been in the bag.
(I think oxydize is the wrong term for loosing an oxygen atom, but it sounds good anyway...)

IMHO, 2-4" is perfect sizes for a 10g aquarium. It should give you a good foundation with the larger rocks and the smaller rocks can give you shape. It also allows more surface area for bacteria to grow. But, also, keep in mind that you will need a lot of water flow in the tank.

There are a few good live rock places online to get some live rock. I would first suggest to look at SWF.com's nice selection of live rock and see if anything there peaks your interest. If not, (do not post competitor links, I know, I know...) has some pretty cheap Caribbean live rock... that I used for my nano. Infact, I got 40 pounds, and now I'm thinking I only needed 20. lol!

so you are going to send some my way then right? lol swf.com doesnt have small quantities of live rock. the only one i think id really be able to get is the 12 lbs of rubble. but maybe the regular 12 lbs would be fine to. i have one power head thats for a 30g and my filter for flow...

i see you have the nova extreme lighting system. i have the nova extreme pro system. i think i need to replace the bulbs they were used for about 6 months. but im not sure where to order them from. any ideas?

How many GPH is each? The powerhead and the filter? What other forms of filtration are you going to put on the tank, other then weekly water changes?

Stock lighting is good, but not great. If you can, buy top quality lighting. It's come to be known that corals actually do better under mainly blue lighting. A lot of people do actinics and "purple plus" bulbs. I'm going to be upgrading my lighting system in the next year, when my bulbs need to be changed into an LED lighting system.

While you are at it, do a search for "Snake's Methods" and you will be able to find a lot more information.

the powerhead is 500gph. and i think the filter is about 200 gph.honestly probably nothing. ill do a water change every week and try to stay on top of testing the water and things like that

Ok. I like the way 3 daylight and 3 actinic look so I'll probably stick with that. It's more than enough lighting in such a small tank anyways. Just wanted to see what kind of setup you were running! Lol

If water changes is going to be your only way of nutrient export and control, as well as chemically balancing your tank for a variety of coral, you may want to consider using a top quality salt. There are a few quality salts to choose from. I prefer Tropic Marin, however a lot of people are enjoying AquaVitro Salinity salt and that new salt from Seachem.... There's also Saltwater Correct - and it's made in America, 100% and all of the profit made from it goes towards aquaculture research. Anyways, the point is - if that's the only way you are going to control nutrient buildup, get a high quality salt.

this is the fresh water version of my 10 gallon before i finally convinced my gf that salt will be much nicer.
its not as cloudy as my iphone is making it seem. its not cristal clear but its better than these pics look

Looks like you got a good start. I like that aquascape/rock. If it were a SPS dominated tank - I would only do that one rock and have SPS growing like crazy all over it and the back wall. lol. So, what corals are you looking to get? That kind of dictates what skimmer you need, (lighting, but you got a light) and how much flow your tank needs...
