New Seahorse tank Diary

I ordered fom SWF .....FINALLY I can get my free stuff. That means I have my CUC for the 30g. I noticed brown diatoms on the rock wall, so it's time. I didn't get any hermits for the seahorse tank, I hope the snails can do the job like everyone says they do. It's bitter cold weather here so I don't expect my order right away. They were out of sponges and any macro algae I would want.
I purchased:
1 Green Nepthea Tree (I liked the color)
Snake lock coral
Cleaner shrimp (for the 90g)
Nassarius snails Buy 10/get 10 free
For free I will get:

Copepods (90g fuge)
Nerite snails X 20
Cerith snails X 25

Im at work =(....and as usual not busy. Yea I wouldn't add any hermits in there either. Going all snails is a good idea and I really like your choice of snails. Nerite, Cerith, and Nassarius are my favorite also with mexican turbos being okay if needed. Astrea are just too much trouble. I used to right the ones which fell but now I just don't care. Hopefully all the little bastards will die soon so I can buy some more nerites and be done with it. The tank really is coming along nicely. Looking really good. Im sure you'll have it all decked out in no time. Im really anxious for you to get it going so I can only imagine how anxious you must be. Ill keep a close eye for the finished product.

Thanks Chain,
I want everything perfect when I finally add them. Bummer my back is out, I need some crazy glue gel for the corals to be attached to the wall. I did the wall to save space because a 30g is so small and narrow. Corals coming from the rocks will make perfect hitches.
I had hoped for some more sponges, but me and SWF just can't get in sync. When I'm ready to buy it seem sponges are always out of stock.
Kenya tree coral grows pretty fast so it shouldn't be long before I get to pull all the fake stuff out. The blue and metallic green mushrooms should make some nice color. Also before I know it coraline will be everywhere.
I'm not real sure how good the turtle grass is doing...I have 1 that is nice and green, the rest is brown, and the roots looked fuzzy when I replanted them with the bio substraight stuff. That shipment was supposed to arrive long before the grass but weather had it held up since the 28th of Jan. the tank is just too new. I might have to wait a month or two and try the grass again.

Update: I am finished with decor..be kind and don't laugh.
Well I found some Fake stuff I thought I could live with. I also found a colorful fake coral feeding station. It had a crevice just the right size for my glass seashell, with little hitches all around it. I also found an awesome looking rock and some bright colored fake plants tall enough. I also have a green Kenya tree and Christmas tree coral on the way, so I will have some natural hitches as well, besides the regular Kenya and sponge already in there.
So for now I am declaring the tank done and ready for my horses ...LOL as soon as I can gather the almost $400.00 to get them. Seahorse source has Riedi for around $80.00 each I want 4 females. So that check with the extra pay from the snow storm will come in handy at the end of this month.
This is the feeding station, the glass seashell has yellow that refllects from the light...in real life it's beautiful

Tank is a little cloudy from moving stuff around

Thanks Al, Oh andI also got a grow light for the hood I put on the sump...well it says grow light anyway..LOL I hope it works good enough for macro algae.
The bulb is called A "Nutri grow Plant Lamp" from coralife. It is for freswater but I think it will work.

Question...The rock with the sponge hurt when I moved it...I was just looking at it...it has tiny spikes all over the rock. Is it safe for the horses, I mean it felt like a bristle worm it hurt so much. The rock looks fuzzy it has so many little sharps..I'm afraid this is the best picture I could get.

They actually turned brown and black...LOL....yes that was the feeding dish...

I read they change colors...I was hoping with all the red and blue mine will be a bright color, I will love them anyway. A seahorse..ever since I was a little girl I've loved them. I finally am going to have some..WOW I never thought I would.
Ever get the urge to try and get some more and try again?

YES, I think about it quite often :( BUT I would do it all differently.....I would start a tank from scratch,...I'm just not ready yet. I have too much to do as it is, and no one to help if I ever went away anywhere
which I SWEAR I am going to do...LOL....I need a vacation

LOL...I hate to travel...so keeping fish tanks are a perfect choice for me. I did worry about my mother trying to do top offs when my back was out completely.

The tank looks wonderful.
About the rock, is it live rock. ?? or a fake rock ?? Can you tell what the spikes are, are they feather dusters or hydroids or something like that??

Thanks T, are the little ones eating the frozen yet?
The rock is dead, it was sitting on a shelf and should seed nicely. I loved the texture so I purchased it for $7.00
Whatever is on the sponge rock is not feather dusters or hydroids. The entire rock has prickles all over it. It looks like it has wire hair on it. I don’t think it’s safe for the horses.
Some better pictures but not much better..a photographer I am not. You can kind of see the prickles in this one

I cant really tell with them being in that tub. I feed them frozen in the morning and then bbs. I may move some to a 10 gal so I can see them better. I still have about a hundred that are about 5 weeks and about that many that are 2 weeks.
If you don't feel comfortable, then take out the rock. If it picks you, then it could cause an injury to the horses tails.

I don't don't know T, if they are living in the tub I wouldn't mess with whatever is working. If it isn't broke don't try and fix it.
We think alike, I was planning to move the sponge out since I cant remove it from the rock it's on. It lived for years in the 90g so it can go back home now.

Update:
Finally everything is ready...new tanks do look nice until the algae comes. My snails should arrive Tuesday if SWF sends them out Monday as planned. I have a small diatom bloom started on the back wall. I think amphipods play, I see them skipping around in there happy as can be when I turn off the lights and my desk lights are on for me to see..
I have been running the lights for the corals and turtle grass, I have a few more corals coming with the snails, Green Nepthia, Christmas tree coral and I hope a red tree sponge, if I can figure out how to add that to my order.
I'm going to remove the sponge on the rock with wire teeth. I have one shoot of the 5 purchased of turtle grass that is actually growing a new blade. it likes the new T5 lighting I guess, two have the slightest hint of green and two look completely brown. If the one thrives it should be enough to seed the tank.
It all takes time. No smileys are working, is it my computer or is it everyones?????
