When dealing with some fish, Egg crate works perfectly as a tank divider. You can put some window foam on the edges and gently rock it into place.
Are you still working on that fish list? Post it up again!

Seth, I never thought about the eggcrate bit! Doh.
As for the fish....once is a bummer. Two is frustrating. I don't think I'm going to try for three.
In other news, I ordered the first LED light today. Due to be tested the seahorse tank. I'll let ya know when it arrives.

I'm rethinking a few things. Not sure if I'm going to try a THIRD time for 2 blue reef chromis.....and if I do I sure as hell am not putting them together until it's time to meet in the DT.
I am also rethinking my anthias. Bartlett's are the same price, more or less, down here, and from what I've read pretty hardy. I have a LOFS (local online fish store) that has them in stock right now for $40 each...if I order more than $100 it's free shipping. Which would be pretty easy to do; I'd just order up my goby at the same time. Instead of a green banded sleeper, I'm thinking of a tiger watchman instead. Although it's labeled a "watchman" goby, it's in the Valenciennea genus like most sleeper gobies and is a decent sand sifter. And is also in stock right now at the LOFS. I might have to consider that option when I get paid on the 31st.

'Cause I don't think the idea of two dwarf angels in a 110 is a great idea...they may not fight, but that just doubles my chances of one of them being a coral nipper, and that won't do.
If I'm going to take any fish risks (more than the PBT that is!!) then it would be to try two wrasse. I still want my Blue Star Leopard or a Flasher, and Michelle still wants her Mystery. How bad could it be? Famous last words, right??
BTW.....I start my 36th trip around the sun today! So today should be the day that the LFS says they have the anthias in stock, right??? For 50% off??
If they do, I don't know what I would do with them...I'm leaving tonight for the weekend, won't be back until 2-ish Sunday. LOL

Just ordered myself a brand-spankin-new Aquahub ATO kit with some unexpected birfin' day money!
Which is good, because my water loss is already like 3/4 gallon a day, even wih a piddly little 130w PC light over it. I went with the DIY "kit" since I don't mind playing with electricity and it saves me 30 bucks over the JBJ ATO.
The rest of the birthday windfall....hmmmm....I'm thinkin' a pair of Bartlett's at least. Maybe that tiger. Not sure if I should get him now since the sand bed is totally sterile. Don't think it would be wise to pick him up for at least 4 months or so.

Sounds like some well spent Birthday money to me...LOL, Hobbyists are so easy to please for getting them gifts.

Yeah. You know, one of the best Hanukkahs I had in recent memory (we're talking semi-adult here) was when my family grudgingly realized that my strange Sci Fi model hobby wasn't going to just "go away," and they all got together and picked out a half-dozen specialty resin kits they knew I'd had my eye on. These days I'm thrilled when someone realizes that gift cards to the LFS or book store (and, yes, the hobby shop!) are, in fact, fantastic gifts for me.

Yeah, if I get cash for a present, it goes to paying bills or food. My family knows that if they want to get me a real gift, they have to get me a gift card from that specific store.
I'm glad you have your little hobbies to keep you occupied. I wish I had more money for mine. But, that will come with time, I suppose.

My Dad was so hard to buy gifts for, a hobbyist is the easiest to please. My kids never had a problem knowing what I want for a gift.

LOL...You have a daughter, get used to being broke.
You are going to school, so that will pay off later and with doing side jobs...you will be fine. The 40s to 55 are the really good years, the kids are grown and retirement is just around the corner...and grandkids. These are your family struggle years, it all pays off in the long run, so just keep swimming you will get there.

Dude, true dat. I've been in that boat before, and I'm sure I will again. Plus Michelle and I don't have kids. We do have student loans, though, so....
Right now whatever is leftover after bills goes right into savings to rebuild that acount, and we give ourselves "allowances" of $50-ish per week to cover things like meals out, makeup (hers, not mine, lol) fish stuff, etc. I've been using mine for the aquariums stand and home repair stuff, that sort of thing. The savings took a huge hit when we bought the house, and all the "little things" that go into repairing a fixer-upper short sale definitely add up.
But....and this is just a lesson I've learned...it's always good to deliberately budget a little "fun money" into the bills for your personal sanity and well-being. Decide what sort of thing makes you happiest; be it woodworking projects, aquarium supplies, buying the wife presents, what have you, and budget yourself a little cash every week to use to that end. Even if it's $10 bucks a week. You treat it like a separate savings account, one that's just for your hobby or project, and you use it for that purpose alone. I call it an allowance because it's just like the allowance you got as a kid. Believe me, there are paychecks when we cut our allowances way back, because savings and bills have to take precedence, but we still make sure that we give ourselves a LITTLE fun money each week. Trust me, it's worth it.
On a different note...battening down the hatches down here. Gonna get a little of this storm after all, I"m afraid.

Oh yeah, I do budget fun money into my monthly plans. No worries. My wife and I get about $20 each right now per week - and my money usually goes to 10g of water for my tank, $5 in savings, and sometimes something for my tank.

So the savings come out of your allowance....? So your actually getting $15.00 a week and you spend that on water.....
What are you paying each week in water? It might be more cost efficient to get your own RO unit. The family can also drink and cook with the water so it sin't just fish water, and RO water is better for the baby.
Back when my kids were little, if I had $20.00 left over after bills, food and the babysitter I was happy...I only got paid 2xs a month so that $20.00 was the extra for the whole houshold for sometimes 18 days if payday came early because the 13th fell on a Sunday and I got my pay on a Friday....it would be a long time before the 30th rolled around.
