Picture time.
So, since there's not much to do except watch the diatoms bloom, I decided to build my ATO system:
Pretty simple and straightforward. The bottom switch energizes a relay when the float drops, and turns off the relay when the float rises up again. The top switch is a safety backup and will also trip the relay and kill power to the 110v line if the first switch fails and the water continues to rise. I'm going to the LFS tomorrow to get RO water and some airline tubing...I decided to use my Aqualifter as the pump for this so I don't have to spend Mo' Money. As of tomorrow I'll only have to check the silly ATO reservoir weekly. It's a good feeling.
My dirty fuge:
I think I said it before....I think it's already growing cyano because it's an old light and it's been on 24/7. I have now switched it to 8p-8a, and I'll buy a new light for it soon.
And.....day one of the skimmer:
I don't know why people don't talk about these marineland skimmers. I have had NO problems with mine, either producing foam or maintenance. If I had any complaint at all, it would be to say that I wish the 100 model also had a drain adapter (the 300 model does). Oh....one more complaint....I wish the plastic was a little more opaque; the clear plastic body tends to get coraline growth on the inside since it's so close to the fuge light. I don't really need to see the process taking place, and the growth does impede the bubble production.
So that's it....not great pictures I know, but this poor thread has gone on too long without any! It's just hard to take pictures of boring stuff.
