Aaaaand......HOME. Finally. Came home to two cats, one dog, a number of seahorse and fish.....everyone we left was fine, albeit a little grouchy on the part of the cats. It was definitely nice to wake up in my own bed, that's for sure.

Thanks, Seth!

I just got my hands out of the tank actually. Blew down the rocks a bit, as the detritus was building up on a couple of them, and there was a single strand of caulerpa that was slowly growing and getting invasive. Got that bugger out of there, but I'm sure it left a couple feeler tendrils behind to plague me later on. I'm due for a 10g water change so I have to swing by my LFS to pick some NSW up.
We stopped and visited our northern (north to us....) friend in Palm Bay on the way home last night, installed some DIY moonlights in her hood for her, and stopped at a new fish store in her area. Came back with a single Duncan head for $7.00! With the rate I've seen and heard these grow, I don't mind just buying one polyp...I figure I'll have 5 by the time the year is out. Kinda pretty....I was never a big big fan until I saw some in Siptang's tank!!

Nice. I wish i had the time and money to travel. Duncans are also one of my favorites. I am having some difficulties with my tank right now. :( not too happy with it at the time being. Maybe this summer ill have some time to work on it. I dunno.
Sounds like your tank is happy and healthy right now though. :)

Jeez. Is it me, or are these growing kinda fast? Here's a shot of the birdsnest as of today. Scroll back one picture and you'll see the same corals just 2 weeks ago:

The two on the right are starting to intertwine, and if this growth continues I'm going to have to frag the tips in just a few weeks, to keep enough room to clean the glass.

Seth, you and I are pretty close in terms of age and earning potential, but there's one big (or rather LITTLE) difference, and that difference is currently running around your house charming the socks off of everyone who sees her. ;-) I'm sure that if and when our little bundle of joy / grey-hair accelerator comes along, I'll suddenly find both time and money conspicuously absent from my life.
Thing is.....I don't think I will mind one bit when that happens. Not one bit.
Sorry to hear about the tank, man! :-( I'll head over to your thread in just a sec....got a few more pics to post here....

Some more pics of the corals....
The Pocillopora:

Red Monti:

New Duncan:

Closeup of the green-polyped Birdsnest:

My Bird-of-Paradise. I'm finally seeing some growth on this, but it's a slow-growing coral because, as Richard gently reminded me last week, it's a deep-water species. Color is starting to come back on it as well:

Here's another shot of the Poci:

Some random dude at Sea World who didn't know he was being photographed (else he would have sucked his gut in a little bit for the photo).......

Long arms: Good for reaching to the bottom of deep tanks AND taking self-portraits:

Dude you grabbed a duncan? How much did it cost you? I could have gave you mine for a ridiculously good price lol.

That there was a $7 polyp, but I thank you for the offer my friend! What do you think of the growth on those birdsnests? Wild.

Sounds like you and your lady had a great time Rick! That aquarium is amazing as is your new additions. That duncan will grow quickly. I got mine at WWC in late March, One head and now it has twelve, the wife says more. I will have to clean up the system and grab some shots. The sun corals are doing well, but have to move them and the Duncans because the Elegance is reaching out and touching it's neighbors.
I am glad you two had a good time. I can't waite to get on and off that plane!!

I should do a 10g water change tonight. I'm feelin kinda low though...I don't know if I'm under the weather (Wife is sick as a dog right now) or just plain lazy. But the tank is getting film algae on the glass real easy right now, which has always been an indicator that something is "off" in my book. Just hard to get motivated when I feel so tired.
I've also got to re-think my physical filtration strategy. When I had the filter pads on the top tier of the first chamber, some of the return would overflow the top and spill into the second chamber without going through the floss. Now that I've removed that tier and put the filter pads on the second level, the power of the flow seems to push the floss around and....again....gets into the second chamber without being filtered for particulates. This is obvious to me in the display tank because there's always a little particulate floating around. Maybe if I put a piece of plexi with holes drilled....something to diffuse the flow when it comes out of the return....I don't know. Suggestions?

Ya know, Every night I come home, plant my butt in the chair across from the tank, grab a drink and sit back to watch the fish swim in the current. It's not the worlds prettiest tank, nor is it fully stocked yet. But it's my tank and I love it.
I'm so very grateful to be in this hobby. Despite the work involved.....it's still completely relaxing to me and I wouldn't trade it for a thing.
BTW, yes I'm a little liquorly medicated right now and may be in the "I love you man" stage.

Sorry, I am late to the game on this one. But. I LOVE THIS POST!!!!!
