BTW, here is what I'm thinking of doing with my LED fixtures when the new colors come in.

The center white/blue unit is the existing fixture. The two side units are the additions. These will be attached to the main unit via two cross beams (not seen) so it literally rests across the master light. This will also help cool the DIY bulbs, because the internal fans vent out the side across the new bulbs. I have two of these units on the tank, so there will be a total of 6 reds, 4 greens, and 2 UVs in the new mix.
This is probably overkill. But I'd like to see how it looks to start, then I'll dial it back to about 50% and see how the corals do.
So waite..... I can send you my wifes LED fixtures along with a check and you will upgrade hers for us???? what a true buddy!!
I want more UV's tho.....

Well actually, if you like the way it looks when it's done....and there's some actual visual impact on the coral that's worth it to you.....I'd be more than happy to make another couple sets after mine are done. You've got these same fixtures, right? The unit dimensions should be identical.

Sorry i havent participated in your thread for a little while. Those additions looks pretty good. Cut and dry kinda installation. Glad you realized the importance of having a full spectrum. Ill be buying a photon 32 from reefbreeders pretty soon i hope.

Seth, good to see ya!
Yep. I don't think there was ever a time when I wasn't toying with other colors, but the prices of LEDs at the time weren't really appealing to my wallet. So I don't mind doing the entry-level CCLEDFs and adding a DIY element to them. Means I get to pick and choose my colors, and who doesn't love the chance to play with their soldering iron?
Of course now, even the CCLEDFs have good color options available for competitive prices.
I did a big cleaning job on this tank yesterday, and moved a few rocks around to get to some low-flow areas of the sandbed. In doing so, I found a couple coral frags that had fallen back in the corners, so suddenly I have more zoas to display. I tried gluing them with the supeglue-putty-superglue sandwich trick....hopefully they'll stay put this time. I also replaced all of the powerhead screens with the new "stronger" version. I haven't turned the wavemaker timer on yet though and I may not. I kinda like the higher flow of all 4 powerheads on at the same time.
I decided to wait a couple more days for pics. There's a new fish that came out of QT that's exploring the tank. Want to give him time to get used to the new digs. Also I seem to be photographing the birdsnests every 2 weeks, so we have a day or two more to go for the next birdsnest progression shot. Stay tuned....

yes, i believe we do have the same fixtures. I will have to measure to be on the safe side, but that sounds awesome. I have a buddy up here that has the 24" powerwave fixture and he took his old T-5's out and made some serious LED's to fit inside. He bought them over Wed. and may I say...... OMG! Made the fixtures my wife has look dark. He had 1/4th of the whites, true blues, some purples and reds (6) I believe. the shimmer was freakin amazing.
I'm glad he is smart like that as he should be when he is an instructor at ITT. CRAZY WICKED!
anyways, I too am looking into the lights th mentioned and can't waite to see them on his system!!!!

Went to Exotic today, and finally found my Tiger goby!! He's chillin' out in the recently vacated QT now. Also brought home something else to go right into the tank....more on that later.....

you bought another leopard wrasse? I was speaking to some people and I have been told that your method of taking the risk is actually the preferred method for those type of fish.

I gotta take you to my buddy Matt's house. This guy is an mac guyver so you and him will get along awesomely and also he's a avid leopard wrasse lover so he has like 10 different kinds in his 550g. Yes, you read that right. 550g.
Let's sink that in.
Here is the kicker, they will come and rest in his hand and eat inside his hand when he puts his hand inside the tank.
Pure awesomeness right there.

OH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!
Keep me informed on those fav's!
Love the tube too! Great job!
Will do. I have had this favites colony and a favia frag for about 6 weeks. The favites colony was originally up higher and was bleaching out where the light was hitting it. I moved it down to the bottom of the tank shaded under a ledge and it has since colored up and seems to be doing quite nicely. The Favia frag is still pale, but when I cleaned the tank this week I tried moving it down as well. We'll see if that helps or not.
I forgot to take a FTS today. I'll try to take one tomorrow. Funny bit....the Bartlett's Anthias used to be the boss of the tank. Now that the Potter's Angel is in, the Bartlett's has been sulking. I only see him during a few hours of the evening for dinner, then he disappears again. I think the fish are still sorting out the new size hierarchy.

I was unaware you have had the favs for awhile. I am looking at a christmas fav (or I think thats what its called) and a Golden Angel. (giving me a discount, originally $160.00 $100.00
I am very thrilled to see the tube anemone, that is one fine speciman! Love the color!
I might have to head over to WWC and grab me some more ric's, one of mine bleached out for some unknown reason and the have some beautiful rainbows!
I'm so jealous of your tank. Your and Richards are coming along beautifully!

Nah, I'm not big on naming fish....I just call 'em what they are.
On occasion I'll make a special exception. There's a royal gramma in the seahorse tank named "Rugburn" in honor of all the RG's I've kept who have committed sushi before him.
