I just set them up in a 29 gallon in my "office" downstairs. Titan is fine, lonely but healthy...and I can find all but one baby~who is probably hiding. So 5 happy little ponies. I just feed them. Man are they getting big!!!

Sounds great Ryk!! The 29 isn't too big for them? Just wondering.
I'm acclimating my two new ponies right now. Man, they are SO little!! I put a little seahorse figurine in the acclimation bucket with them for something to hitch to, and one found that right away. The other one is pretty much just motating around the acclimation bucket. I sure hope I'll be able to find them to feed them once they're in the tank!!

Well, the little ones just went into the tank after over 3 hours of acclimation. Acclimation and release went without a hitch, and both have found hitching spots to check out their new environment. When they first went in, they just kind of got blown around by the current in the tank (I remember Navajo and Apache dealing with that their first day or two as well). I've turned the flow on the filters way down, and that will be bumped up with each water change...feels like I'm starting all over again.
Right now, every one is chilling under the blue lights and will be for the rest of the day. Tomorrow back into their lighting schedule. I will feed everyone in about an hour or so, I can't say I really expect my little ones to take much, if anything today for dinner. I think they're kinda freaked out...I know I would be too.

I've decided on names for my new horses. One of the horses, the smaller of the 2 is definitely a yellow kuda, the other one is a black, like Navajo and Apache. I'm naming the little yellow one Maya and the black one will be called Inca. I know, not exactly North American Indian names, but these names are also very appropriate given my diving experience and my love for Mexico and the people there.
Yay!!

Please pardon all of the posts...but I want to record things as they happen. I was observing my horses and I noticed Inca snick 3 times...I haven't fed them yet and won't for another half an hour. Maya on the other hand is in hunting mode, but staying put to her hitch. I'm going to be interested to see if they will eat some dinner tonight.
Navajo hitched to the same coral that Inca is on, and they were snout to snout for a few seconds...that was a real awwwwwe moment - where IS my camera when I want it!! Both Navajo and Apache are more animated than I've seen them in a long time...I think they're really excited too.

Have you tried PE mysis. They are full of yummys.
Also, have you tried a feeding dish. I have seen several designs, from hang on tank to the kind i used. A large clam shell, to a shallow glass dish.
One more thing after reading thru you thread again. Have you tried converting a hob filter for your micros. I have seen a few threads on converting them in to a refuge. you could add a palm light (15 bucks) and have a nice place for your pods to hang out.
Hi Teresa,
Can you give me more info on those "palm lights"? Where could I get something like that? What do they look like?
How did things go in China? Glad to see you're back. Hope everything is going great.

Here are some pictures of Maya and Inca. I really tried to get pics of each with either Navajo or Apache in the same shot for size perspective. The little guy on the coral is Inca, and the big horse in the same pic is Apache. I've got a couple of pics of Maya on the rock with the colt coral with Navajo in the same shots. There are also a shot each of Maya and Inca alone. Enjoy...they're doing great by the way, exploring and snicking rocks. Maya even ate frozen mysis for dinner tonight. I didn't see Inca eat any, but he spent a good part of the afternoon snicking the rocks around him. I figure that probably is sufficient for him since he's so little.
Here they are, introducing Maya and Inca...

Yeah, when I opened the bags and saw how tiny they were, well, I just couldn't believe it!! I thought Apache and Navajo were tiny when I got them and they were at least twice as big!! So far they're doing great. Both have been exploring the tank and taking advantage of the abundance of pods available
. As I posted before, Maya also ate at least 5 nice big frozen mysis. I didn't see Inca eat any, but that doesn't necessarily mean he didn't. We'll see how things go throughout the weekend.

This was very fun. After the lights were out, I decided to go in and see what I could see. There was Inca (Navajo's protégé) wandering around the tank in the dark. I pulled up a chair and watched. He did finally hitch and settle on a coral. All's quiet now.
mmmmmm....
I really think my new little ones are going to be great!! And Apache and Navajo are acting kind of like doting parents. I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

This is true.
For the most part, Inca and Maya are settling in nicely. One problem that I have noticed is at feeding time. They really take a long time to decide to go for the mysis, and by that time the @#$%~ bristleworms are out mopping up. I've seen each of them go to snick a piece of mysis in the sand and accidentally catch a tiny bristleworm as well. I'm trying to think of an alternative way to go about feeding them until they're bigger.
Suggestions very welcome.
I would like to pull each and every one of those worms out of my tank!!!

With a little brainstorming and taking some great advice that I've read elsewhere, I was able to feed all 4 horses tonight and feel that they had plenty. I ended up placing a shallow plastic dish in the corner of the tank that Navajo and Apache frequent for feedings (held down by a piece of rubble rock). When I went to feed them tonight, I gave them the normal cues...equipment off, tapping on the glass to direct them. It took them NO time at all to find their mysis in the dish, and this GREATLY minimized the number of bristleworms out and about (and for that matter, the amount of excess mysis in the tank). With that being done, Maya was in the same neighborhood as the the new dish, so she got some mysis (she ate about 5-6 pieces). Inca, on the other hand was hanging out in the back of the tank on a plant and got spoon fed. He also ate about 5-6 pieces, which is fine since they're so tiny.
It worked out great, and I will continue to feed my horses in this manner. What a learning experience.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I also finished up the 3 gallon water change in the sh tank tonight, and everything there went fine. I was going to do that yesterday, but I figured that Maya and Inca had such a fretful time in the day or two before, that I thought I would give them a little break.
