Sounds intriguing, I'm listening. What are your plans? 45 gallon tank...ponies, what kind of horses? What kind of a design to accommodate everyone appropriately and still be able to keep everything in check?? Am I reading this correctly? You've got a plan going for keeping ponies and horses in a 45 gallon?

Currently he's in a 15 gallon with the sargent damsels and the molly. Not much ruffles this guy's fins.

Beth is SO looking forward to getting Flash into her 55 gal tank!! She actually went out last weekend and purchased one purple (Coal) and another red firefish (Burnie) to keep him company and to make him feel welcome. He's going to do GREAT in her tank!! We'll be sure to send pictures of him once he's settled. Not to worry.

Shhhhhhhhhhh.....type smaller
someone might read this

Yep,a 45 for both Horses and Ponies. The more I read and learn, I have been forming theories. Some about feeding live food v.s. frozen food, and the other is companionship. In my pony tank the ponies eat at their leisure. Snicking choice bbs as they swim by. And it is painfully obvious that Titan is very lonely. Which I will fix come pay day. So I am wondering in a tank with live bbs and mysis, that would allow food and shelter for everyone, including seahorse fry..not to mention family.

Ah, type smaller, that's funny!!
Hmmm...I'll be interested in seeing how that idea pans out. It would be really cool to do, but what about the pods in the tank for the big horses? Are you planning on supplementing with purchased pods? Keep me posted on how things go with it.
I'm in the VERY begining stage of planning an upgrade for my sh tank. I know, I swore off ever doing that again, but I could easily keep a 46gal bow front in the spot that the tank is now. We'll see though...I mostly dread the thought of the purchase of everything again, not to mention the switch itself. Like I said, we'll see.

Well...bow fronts aren't all they're cracked up to be. The curved glass distorts the fish. My LFS has a 56 gallon tall square shaped tank. If I was going to up grade, I'd have Luke drill and do plumbing on the new tank so you can have a sump tank. That's what he's doing for me right now. My current DS 29 will be the sump tank for the DS 10 gallon. So in all the system has 39 gallons. Also you can put the heater and other unattractive equipment in the sump tank. The big bonus, I'm hoping, is then there will be only one tube in and one tube out. So no more fry or horses getting caught to the intake, cause that would be the only tube to cover with a sponge filter. I plan to due the same for the 45 gallon.
Definitely will seed with pods once I have the tank set up. No more LR or LS. It the only way to make sure no hitch hikers get a free ride. The 45 is a long way off. I finally managed to take down the 90 and move it into the garage, along with 200lbs of sand and 45 lbs of rock. My back is not talking to me right now. The next step is to figure out when I can take the 90 to Luke's and exchange for the 45. Would you be interested in coming with me and meeting Luke and Leia???

I got home late tonight and immediately fed everyone. Seems to take a lot longer in the sh tank with my little ones in there...making sure they get something to eat. I spot fed Inca since he was readily available to me on the front of one of the rocks...he ate great until Apache horned in on the action. Once the big horses were both eating out of the dish, I tried again. Inca again ate very well...no worries about him.
I finally found Maya to feed her and where she did eat some, I wasn't as comfortable with how much she ate...well, okay back to the pods I guess.
After everyone had eaten, I did a nice 3 gallon water change in their tank and that went great. About 20 minutes or so after I was done with the water change I (again) went in to check on how everyone was doing and this is what I found...first of all Maya was at the dish eating by herself and little while later, Navajo had joined her.
I also got a cute picture of Inca to post.
I love it when my horses are happy!!

So I get home from work this evening and I was getting ready to go in to feed the horses, when my husband comes out of their room and says, "there's 3 horses in the feeding dish now". Yep there were, and Inca was hanging out the plant right by the dish...just waiting for dinner.
So, I got their dinner and fed them...and then I took pictures...I have the SMARTEST horses in world!!
Oh, intros for those who don't know, Apache is the big black male kuda, Navajo the big female, Inca is the little reddish kuda and Maya is the little yellow kuda (?).

I think it's pretty cool too how Navajo is taking care of the little ones. Tonight when they were all feeding, I noticed Navajo wrap her tail around Apache's forehead and force it up so the little ones could get into the dish to eat...ahhh, the woman's touch...

Thanks Bronco, I'm enjoying my horses so much. Inca is named after the South American Indian tribe.
I love the name too.

Thanks a lot Alaina, I think they're beautiful too and I just love them. The color in the last set of pics is looking so much brighter because all of the previous pictures of Maya and Inca were taken under blue lighting...these were taken under the white pc's. I can't tell you how happy I am with how they're doing.
I did purchase Maya and Inca from this site and found out that they are (obviously) captive bred and trained to eat frozen. I emailed SWF.com and found out that my particular horses were born and raised in Sri Lanka, so for as young and little as they are, they're also very worldly.
I'm happy to tell you how I'm going about training my horses to the dish...
The dish itself is more than likely something you have handy anyway...it's a plastic container from Gerber baby food vegetables (Jonah has been graduating). I simply put a small piece of rubble rock in it to keep it down. I do keep the dish in the same place, especially with training the little horses as they're not as familiar with the tank yet as my big ones. When I feed, I turn the equipment off and simply lower the baster filled with mysis down to the dish and place the amount I think I need to feed (usually much less in the morning). I tap lightly on the glass near the dish and then go about my own business for a few minutes. I leave the equipment off for about 15 minutes or so. I try to keep an eye on who's coming and who's going. Feeding my horses this way has dramatically cut down the number of bristleworms out and about at feeding time. It has only taken a few days for all the horses to recognize that this is where they get fed.
Hope this helps...I hope I didn't leave anything out.

Sorry, I forgot to add one extra added bonus with doing the feeding dish, in the evening after supper...long after, I gently take the dish out and empty it of any excess mysis that might be sitting around in it. Most of the time though, my nassarius snails have taken over mop up duty...but it doesn't hurt to take it out anyway and empty.
