That was exactly what I was thinking. I wish I new why garlic is a big hit with fish, but it works

hmmmmmmmm....next time i go fishing I'll give my bait a garlic bath before I cast.

How's the Apache Family? Are new additions to the horse tank or reef?

Nope, no new additions at this time, well save for the very beautiful torch coral I put in the reef this past weekend...doing great, by the way.
Beth and I are headed out of town for the weekend tomorrow for a very well deserved and very anticipated mini-vacation...who knows what we'll come home with. Before we leave town though, I'm stopping to check out a corner tank that's for sale by the M.D. at the facility that I work for...I don't know what size it is, so I don't know if I'll be upgrading my sh tank, or both the sh tank AND the reef, or neither...we'll see.
LOL...Lisa

Neato!!! Torch coral is so pretty. I hope the corner tank works out. I'm heading to Luke's to trade my 90 and get the 45 back.
Hope you have a great weekend. Who's horse sitting?

Mike is going to be around all weekend to take care of Leo and make sure the horses are fed...I'm showing him all of that tomorrow morning before leaving, and I'll have plenty of mysis shrimp set up and ready to go so he doesn't have to mess with that.
Can't wait...it's been a very stressful couple of weeks.
**sigh**
Love your new horses...I'll bet you're having a ball!! Just went in to take a look at my horses...I think they could use an upgrade (well, Apache and Navajo, anyway)...they've gotten huge...especially Apache, you wouldn't recognize them!! They're gorgeous though.
I'm thinking I need to make a video of them soon...wait till you see them...

I did indeed stop to check out the tank that the doctor at my place of employment has for sale...don't know what kind of a price tag yet...but I WANT IT!! It looks to be about 40-45gal hex corner tank...nice and tall, but built to fit where I want it to fit...perfect.
Also, after a very fun weekend of shopping (mostly X-mas gifts for Jonah) we stopped in to look around the LFS that we frequent in Madison...I got an absolutely gorgeous galaxea coral and found the perfect spot in my reef for it. My reef is really starting to look like a reef. Pictures of that on my photo thread when it's settled.
I can't believe I almost forgot to add this in. I almost...ALMOST came home this weekend with a stunning pair of multi-bar pipefish!! They were incredible. I called Rykna on both phone numbers that I had for her...no answer...hoping that she would talk me out of them (fat chance). Anyway...I spent too much money on other things, and when I asked further today about them...they're wild caught...but they were eating frozen mysis, I saw them eat. I just don't feel that in a 37 gal I really feel that I want 6 critters...IDK, I would think that that water quality would suffer...maybe after I upgrade...plus the wild caught thing...mmmm, no.
That's it for now.

Well, tonight was busy. After Leo and I left work, I dropped him off at the groomer to attempt to get him to feeling a bit more back to normal...he looks (and dare I say, feels) absolutely awesome!! His groomer has been clued in to his medical condition, and she is very empathetic to what we're going through...she's totally awesome, we love her.
While Leo was at the groomer, I cleaned and (tried) to reset my coralife supper skimmer...every time is different, we'll see how it goes this time...again (not real impressed).
After that and after my horses had eaten, I took their filters apart and replaced the media in one of the filters, but I totally cleaned the sponges on all of the intakes in the tank. Again, after the small water change I did the other night, the water has a milky, hazy look to it...worries me, but parameters are in check, so I'll bide my time...again.
Apache is rolling around the tank like nothing ever happened. He was waiting at the feeding dish again tonight...I'm coming to the conclusion that patience needs to also be practiced when things look to be going amok...let things run the course for a while with careful observation. The problem with this type of thinking is, of course, when is it best to intervene?
I'm slowly becoming a very, very patient and observant person!!
That's it for now.

It's so good to hear Leo's feeling better
And a hot bath and some pampering doesn't hurt either!!!

I am trying to not to say "I told you so"...and I failed

I so glad to hear he's back to his old self.
I hear what you're saying...at what point to you set the stress problem aside and intervene. Our horses are very aware of what goes on in our world, I startled Titan the other morning. He was sleeping, he likes sleep on the sand, I touched the tank, softly, right next to his head. He jerked, turned his head towards me...and then sleepily tuck his head down...I touched the tank again to make sure he was ok. He turns, facing me directly, fluttered his fins in annoyance, and then headed towards a quieter hitching post.

This evening I decided to put a "bubble curtain rod" in the nursery, not horizontally, but kinda vertically at an angle. I think that the air stone I had in there was just too strong and exhausting the little babies. I just hope that this bubble curtain will supply enough O2 exchange. Here's hoping.
At what age to kuda fry start to hitch?

Sad news...I did indeed lose my little yellow Maya. Poor little thing got really whipped around the tank when Apache was having swimming problems last week. She was injured when he accidentaly hitched to her and took off, and she just couldn't pull out of it.
I'm going to miss her.
Ugh...

Thanks Teresa...Maya was my little one. I'll miss her terribly, but I'm glad I got a lot of beautiful pictures of her. I wish...I wish...well, you know...

I posted on another thread the fact that Apache and Navajo spent a very nice Thanksgiving morning involved in...well, you know. Today Apache again has a slightly bloated pouch and is having trouble swimming (he's upside down) and his bouyancy really stinks...I know that feeling, NOT fun. This is the third time that this has happened, and seems to happen soon after mating. It lasts for about 5-7 days, then he's suddenly back to normal and perfectly fine. I've been very lucky during these episodes to be able to make sure that he eats at each meal...I hope that continues.
I wonder, and at this point, I hope that he has babies in a week or two. In the meantime, I'll just take care of him as best I can.
Did a nice 4 gallon water change and cleaning in the sh and reef tanks this morning. Both look very spiffy again. I thought that I would like to post some long over due pics here.
My new galaxea, torch coral, green goniopora (all corals of course in my reef, NOT with my seahorses!!), a dark pic of Apache, and a picture of Inca (left) and Navajo (right)...yeah, that's my "little" Inca...she's growing so fast. I mostly tell her from the others because she just a teeny bit smaller, and a quite a bit redder. Enjoy...

Sorry to hear he is having trouble again. Maybe you can invent him so kind of tail weights to keep him upright.
j/k If only it was that easy. Hopefully it will fix it's self.

WOW!!! Inca has gotten bigger since I visited. I don't know what you put in your mysis, but what ever it is don't stop!!!!

You're corals look beautiful. Your water looks like you've gotten that skimmer under control.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks Ryk,
I always, ALWAYS feed Hikari mysis laced with garlic...that's it, no steroids or anything like that, but it seems to be a big hit. I agree that Inca has grown very nicely...she's turning into quite a little lady. When I get my tank to upgrade their environment, I'll definitely be looking into getting more companions for my little family.
I have definitely got the skimmer under control, for good hopefully this time. We'll see how long that lasts, but so far my monkeying with it has lasted longer than previous *fingers crossed*.
Well, Apache is definitely at it again. He's got no control over his swimming because of his pouch being bloated. As with the last 2 times this has happened, he seems to favor staying in spots where he can hitch in the highest currents. As disturbing as that has been for me to observe, that seems to be just what he needs since after a couple of days he is able to spontaneously evacuate his pouch and go on as normal. I hope and pray that this time will be no different.
